You will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Anderson Lab's overall function, including the microbiology lab, chemistry lab, sensory lab, and milk receiving lab. Your leadership will ensure efficient management of the workload, factory projects, and associates within these labs. As the manager, you will guide Laboratory personnel while fostering strong collaboration with Production and the Quality team to proactively identify, solve, and prevent issues affecting quality.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize workload and projects for section.
  • Assure safety regulations are followed.
  • Responsible for review of microbiological and analytical data, projects and timely reporting.
  • Responsible for follow-up with customers as required.
  • Serves as a source of technical expertise for analytical group.
  • Manage and direct development of special technical assistance projects.
  • Ensures lab compliance for FSSC 22000 and NQMS while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics and KPIs in the lab.
  • Assure quality of results by establishing and maintaining QA plan and ICPs.
  • Provide training for methods and procedures used within group.
  • Assure instrumentation is maintained in reliable working order and that proper records completed.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining laboratory certification/recognition programs.
  • Ensures the completion of internal lab audits in compliance with the NQAC program.
  • Updates NQMS, ICPs and SOPs as needed and ensures training of laboratory associates. 
  • Assists, advises and trains factory employees in attaining NQAC requirements (MI, LI, P-test, etc.).
  • Provide input and recommendations regarding personnel actions (hiring, terminations, disciplinary actions, shifting of personnel, etc.).
  • Responsible for budgets and time accounting for department.
  • Represent QM at internal and external meetings.
  • Perform factory QC and commercial laboratory audits.
  • Conduct factory GMP and sanitation audits.
  • Represent Nestlé USA interests within industry organizations

 

Qualifications / Certifications

(BA/BS) in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years related work experience., or MS degree in Food Microbiology or closely related area with 3 years of laboratory experience, and previous supervisory experience.

 

Experience:

  • 3-10 years laboratory experience, dependent upon education level.
  • Previous supervisory experience in QA/QC .
  • Writing, meeting management, presentation skills.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal, communication, leadership and analytical thinking skills.
  • Computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, document preparation, good electronic filing skills).
  • Ability to utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to plan group work load, priorities, and service levels.
  • Intimate knowledge of laboratory operations and logistics.
  • Sound knowledge in laboratory GLP, method writing, lab auditing, certain food quality basics (GMPs, HACCP, facility design, auditing, training, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SAP/GLOBE systems is preferred.
