The NUSA/NHS 1L Scholars Legal Internship Program is a paid, full time, 8-week summer internship.  This comprehensive program provides law students completing their first year of studies with the unique opportunity to intern with the in-house legal team at Nestlé USA’s Arlington, Virginia headquarters.

 

The 1L Legal Scholar will receive hands-on experience working with the NUSA and NHS legal teams in areas such as intellectual property, litigation, commercial contracts, employment, advertising, privacy, food law and general legal matters.  In–house lawyers will provide mentoring to the participant with developmental feedback to gain a better understanding of the unique role of an in-house law department at the world’s largest food company.

 

As a NUSA/NHS legal intern, you will gain exposure to senior legal leadership, work on complex, substantive real-world legal issues impacting businesses, and further develop your professional network.

 

Examples of Past Projects

 

In prior years, Nestlé 1L Scholars have worked on diverse projects, including:

 

  • Reviewing and drafting commercial contracts and participating in negotiations
  • Assisting with the development of policies, training materials, checklists and guidelines in a variety of practice areas including employment and environmental law
  • Preparing cease and desist letters for commercial and intellectual property disputes
  • Investigating and managing potential trademark infringement matters
  • Research current trends in food law
  • Digital and Social Media Matters

 

Requirements

• This internship is limited to individuals completing their first year of law school.  The successful applicant will demonstrate resiliency, courage, and leadership. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

• 3.0 or above cumulative GPA

 

Additional Requirements

  • Willing to work for 8 consecutive weeks in summer of 2026
  • Willing to work in Arlington, Virginia for the duration of the internship with 1-2 paid for trips to NHS’s Bridgewater, NJ office

 

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills

• Self-starter who is results-oriented and exhibits responsibility, creativity, and intellectual curiosity

• Involvement in extracurricular activities, demonstrating initiative and leadership
