Position Summary

Nestle USA is seeking a Director of New Business Model Innovation to lead, extend, and diversify the Nestle USA business in new strategic areas of high potential new revenue models that support Nestlé USA’s overall growth strategy.  Individual will lead development and activation of a multi-year growth strategy, centered on new business models, with technology as a key enabler.  This approach to innovation will require a strong foundational understanding of the F&B technology ecosystem & entail strong relationships with VCs, Incubators/Accelerators, technology start-ups, and thought leaders to accelerate partnerships and collaborations. This role will lead the identification and development of business cases for new opportunity spaces & own and drive the early validation of a pipeline of new business model initiatives through execution of pilots and test & learns.  Finally, this individual will demonstrate a very high aptitude in leading through influence, working closely with functions and divisions in gaining alignment and support.

Responsibilities

Strategy, Insight, and Ideation 

 

  • Always be updated on macro-trends, creating a strong network with internal and external stakeholders to confidently identify and develop effective business opportunities.
  • Understand market dynamics (incl. mkt. sizing), competitive activity, key jobs-to-be-done, and whitespace opportunities on emerging technologies to identify & analyze disruption areas. 
  • Lead ecosystem development and expand network of founders, investors, VCs , entrepreneurs, and innovators to deliver on venture and innovation needs. 
  • Identify, analyze, prioritize, and validate new opportunity spaces and innovation venture concepts to provide objective recommendations that guide new venture development or investments.
  • Manage a small team and a portfolio of ongoing pilot experiments and work to identify creative alternatives and best options to drive the overall progress of the portfolio - demonstrating commercial viability and feasibility of being scaled.
  • Provide informed insight, perspectives, and strategic support to Nestlé businesses as they seek to understand and act upon trends, products and business models that could be highly impactful or disruptive to Nestlé.  

 

Commercialization and In-Market Driver

 

  • Establish key performance indicators and measurement planning for new ventures, products, and services, while also defining the business model and business rationale
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align business needs and solutions, consumer insights and R&D to establish the strategy, requirements, timing, and budget for driving in-market experiments and pilots to test new innovative concepts and assumptions.
  • Expand and systematize a lean-startup approach to early-stage new opportunity identification and development in a collaborative setup with the rest of the Nestle globally, cross-company stakeholders and strategic external partners.
  • Develop, lead and manage a cross-functional and active mentorship program for early-stage entrepreneurs who seeks to co-innovate and partner with Nestlé. 

 

Communications and Culture Enabler 

 

  • Serve as key catalyst and connector between Nestlé USA business and external stakeholders (especially startups) that play in the food and food+tech space. 
  • Lead the planning and execution of periodic events, including an annual Innovation Symposium, to cultivate relationships with innovation stakeholders (startups and investors) and expose Nestlé USA leaders to new ways of thinking. 
  • Drive knowledge in the organization: you will contribute to increasing the maturity level regarding Business model methodologies and its relevance in new business development by offering business model training and best practices
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders and functions as a knowledge base and resource for strategy, commercial and innovation teams.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ Years’ Experience
  • 7+ years of combined consulting and/or experience working in VC, accelerators, incubators, startups, or corporate ventures/innovation group
  • Experience of working in an innovation and/or strategy role in a large organization and/or in a human centered design-thinking innovation team is a big plus
  • Led business development partnerships with external partners, identifying clear joint value propositions, business case development, and commercialization for innovation initiatives
  • Experience clearly envisioning & communicating a growth ambition with clear strategies, goals, and KPIs
  • Direct and indirect leadership experience, having directly managed teams of 3+ 
  • Deep knowledge and experience of what it takes to develop and launch an early-stage business opportunity, ideally leveraging lean-start-up methodologies
  • Experience working with external partners in the co-development and commercialization for innovation initiatives
  • A proven track record of taking ideas all the way from concept to product launch through to market traction
  • Experience clearly envisioning and communicating a desirable future scenario with clear strategies, goals, and KPIs
  • Worked and flourished in creating an intrapreneurial environment within a larger, matrixed organization
  • Proven track record of results (High performer)
