Sr. Tax Manager

Sr. Tax Manager

Position Summary

The Tax department is a part of the Nestlé Finance organization. It is responsible for all tax matters affecting the US operations and involved in all important mergers and acquisitions, treasury, and business structuring decisions.  The Tax department is a collaborative organization, which works closely with the Legal, Legislative Affairs, Treasury, Accounting, and Human Resources organizations, as well as various business operations. Tax personnel in the US may be asked to assist global Tax leaders in Switzerland as well as other tax professionals around the world on cross-jurisdictional initiatives. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead for state and local income tax compliance (which includes income, franchise, CAT, etc.), which includes managing the state income tax compliance function and ensure all reporting requirements are satisfied, in collaboration with outsource provider and the federal compliance leader
  • Monitor state activities for filing responsibilities and nexus exposure
  • Review and propose process and system improvements related to state income taxes, including the areas of annual compliance and tax modeling
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and local tax laws
  • Assist with the calculation of the annual state current and deferred tax provision
  • Collaborate with tax accounting leader and external auditor to comply with year-end audit inquires
  • Assist with the preparation and/or review state income tax modeling in connection the state effective tax rate, planning opportunities, merger and acquisitions, and tax reform
  • Assist the state income tax audit leader, such as information document requests 
  • Research tax issues and draft technical memos to support state income tax filing positions and state tax technical positions related to state treatment of federal tax laws
  • Manage state and local tax integration issues for acquired companies, such as unitary analyses and nexus studies
  • Manage tax authority notices
  • Coach and develop a team of direct and indirect reports
  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • 8+ years with strong state income tax experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, OneSource, PowerBI, and Alteryx a plus
  • Experience in public accounting is a plus
  • Self-motivated, team player/collaborative
  • Strategic thinker willing to “dig” into details with a “can do” attitude
  • Organized with excellent project management and compliance process skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, technical, and technology skills
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify and communicate a broad range of tax opportunities and risks
  • Ability to embrace change and be flexible to changing business needs
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting with a CPA or JD
  • Master’s in taxation and/or LLM a plus
