Position Summary: 


As the Associate Microbiologist you play a crucial role in conducting routine laboratory procedures within the quality control microbiology laboratory. These duties are carried out under the general supervision of experienced professionals.
  
 Key Responsibilities
    

  • Performs routine testing of samples according to established compendial and in-house procedures.
  • These responsibilities are carried out under the supervision of laboratory management and senior co-workers.
  • The testing of samples may involve collecting samples from various production areas. Additionally, the Microbiologist prepares solutions, suspensions, and media necessary for essential laboratory procedures. They also handle clerical and administrative duties, utilizing established systems to gather information required for defining test requirements and communicating results to laboratory customers.
  • In the laboratory, the Microbiologist makes and records observations, performs calculations, and collects data for evaluation. They keep their supervisor informed of their work status, prioritize their workload, and meet scheduled timelines. They are also available to work weekends and accommodate occasional schedule changes to meet product release priorities.
  • To ensure smooth testing processes, the Microbiologist communicates and maintains equipment and supply needs, preventing any delays in testing. They report the results of their assignments and maintain accurate record-keeping in compliance with approved regulatory policies and standards, ensuring quality and accuracy. They strictly follow all appropriate operations and testing procedures, GMPs, and safety and health requirements.
  • The Microbiologist demonstrates good housekeeping practices to minimize data mix-ups, potential laboratory contamination, and safety hazards. They possess a thorough understanding of handling bio-hazardous materials and waste, utilizing proper and safe techniques.
  • In the event of unexpected or out-of-specification results, the Microbiologist promptly escalates the findings for appropriate investigation and documentation. They may also participate, under general supervision, in conducting investigational studies of atypical results.
  • For the purpose of training and development, the Microbiologist periodically performs duties of a higher position.
  • Performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting on the instrumentation and/or procedures in the lab.

Experience and Education Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Microbiology and/or laboratory procedure experience 
  • Strong communication skills (Must have a basic proficiency in the English language to comply with verbal directions, signs, policies, and procedures.)
  • Proficient analytical skills are necessary
  • General computer skills are expected
  • Strong attention to detail is crucial
  • Adaptability is an important trait
  • Exhibit a positive attitude regarding work and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within teams.
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness during major changes in work tasks or the work environment; adjusting effectively to new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve efficiency and quality standards.
  • Demonstrate creativity and intellectual curiosity; explore different and innovative approaches to overcome obstacles.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing for extended periods, lifting equipment and supplies (up to 30 lbs.), dexterity required to handle samples, repetitive motion, and vision abilities necessary for detailed and microscope work.
  • Some weekend and holiday work may be required.
  • The work environment may be exposed to powders, chemicals, and allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, milk, dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, soy, fish, and shellfish.

 

The approximate pay range for this position is $62,400.00 to $67,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
