Position Summary
The Material Recipe Management Formulation Specialist ensures the accurate creation and management of product recipes, formulations, and specifications within SAP and related systems to support regulatory compliance, labeling accuracy, and product quality. This role serves as a key cross-functional partner, collaborating with R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Nutrition, Co-Manufacturers, and global teams to enable efficient product development, maintain data integrity, and support the successful launch and lifecycle management of Nestlé Health Science products.
Responsibilities
- Execute Compliance by Design activities, including formulation development, recipe validation, specification creation, and maintenance of formulation documentation within SAP and related systems
- Review and optimize formulations by evaluating trial results, monitoring compliance to product specifications, calculating processing and stability losses, and implementing required formulation updates to support label claims throughout shelf life
- Maintain raw material specifications in SAP RM using qualification data, routine testing results, and supplier information to ensure specification accuracy and compliance
- Create and maintain product specifications in CAT (Confidence Assessment & Tracking Tool) to support Technical Assessments, monitor commercial product compliance, investigate deviations, and partner with manufacturing sites to achieve global compliance targets
- Support exception reporting (ER) investigations by assessing formulation impacts, calculating finished product targets, and recommending corrective actions for ingredient or production-related issues
- Collaborate with GREAT (Global Recipe Excellence & Tracking), SPM, and GPO teams on system enhancements, monitor KPI performance dashboards, and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement and system compliance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a related field
- Familiarity with a manufacturing or factory environment
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and FDA food and/or drug Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a technical function such as QA/QC, TAG, R&D, Operations, or TCU
- Experience with SAP, formulation and specification management systems, and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Experience in product development or formulation within a regulated industry (food, pharmaceuticals, biologics, nuclear power, environmental testing, etc.), strongly preferred
Skills
- Proficient in computer systems and able to quickly learn new technologies
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to escalate issues and collaborate across cross-functional teams
- Ability to apply technical and scientific knowledge to practical business and manufacturing applications
- Strong problem-solving, influencing, and consensus-building abilities
- Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and a continuous learning mindset
The approximate pay range for this position is $85,000- $100,000 base. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location.
