Position Summary:
The Senior Specialist Material & Recipe Management will lead formulation and recipe management activities for Nestlé Health Science products, ensuring products are compliant, manufacturable, and aligned with business needs. This individual will develop recipes and manage the product recipe lifecycle within SAP, creating recipes that meet internal standards, external regulatory requirements, and label declaration needs. Primary focus would be on the complex recipes in the portfolio and I&R projects. This role will review, revise, and approve finished product, ingredient, and component specifications while maintaining formulation documents, raw material specifications, product specifications, and product development activities in SAP RM and Formul@1. Key responsibilities include supporting compliance with nutritional, safety, legal, and regulatory requirements; confirming new recipes are compatible with manufacturing conditions; and reducing Nestlé Health Science recipe complexity through simplification, standardization, and harmonization of formulations and ingredients.
The senior specialist will partner closely within CTAG, QA, Regulatory Affairs, Factories, Global MRM and other corporate functions.
Work Location: Remote (U.S.) with strong preference for candidates located near a Nestlé manufacturing facility or business location, including Eau Claire, WI; Franklin Park, IL; Bridgewater, NJ; or other Nestlé sites.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Material and Recipe Management activities across projects, including new-market rollout initiatives, while ensuring alignment with internal standards and external regulatory requirements
- Drive compliance activities for new products
- Partner with Global MRM, Nestlé Health Science, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Operations, and other functional teams to drive continuous improvement projects
- Train and support new recipe specialists on MRM systems and tools, including Formul@1, SAP RM, CAT, and DevEx
- Lead recipe topic support for internal and external audits
- Support I&R and business maintenance projects by executing Compliance by Design (formulation development, recipe validation, technical acceptance and CAT specification creation)
- Perform recipe review, including mass balance of nutrients (after industrial trial, FOC, SOC)
- Participate in system upgrade testing, knowledge transfers, and cascade information to recipe specialists or other users as needed
- Maintain robust raw material specifications in SAP RM by incorporating qualification testing data, routine testing data, and historical vendor information
- Create initial Site Recipes and ensure alignment with BOM ( Bill of Materials)
- Lead recipe management systems implementation for smoothing transfer and scale up of new product formulation
- Implement and ensure adherence of the approval workflows for ingredients and recipes at factory level
- Collaborate with NHS-MRM, Operations and Regulatory network at global or regional level on any improvement project linked to the function
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Chemistry, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
- 4+ years of experience in a regulated industry (food, pharmaceuticals, supplements, infant formula, pet food, or related)
- Knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, Quality Management Systems (QMS), and applicable food safety and quality regulations (21 CFR)
- Understanding of ingredient functionality, formulation development, and food manufacturing processes
- Experience working across cross-functional teams; cross-market experience preferred
- Experience with SAP, formulation management systems, specification management systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Previous product development or formulation experience preferred
