Sensory Panelist - Contractor

 

This is a contract position providing services to Nestlé in the USA through a third-party staffing services organization. If you are selected for this role, you will be an employee of a third-party staffing partner and not Nestlé in the USA.

 

THIS IS AN 18-MONTH CONTRACT ROLE. CANDIDATES LOCAL TO BRIDGEWATER, NJ WILL BE CONSIDERED. 

 

Introduction

 

Thank you for your interest in becoming a  sensory panel contractor located at fast growing nutrition-based consumer goods company Bridgewater, NJ.  

 

If selected, you will be trained to taste ingredients and/or finished product recipes to describe and quantify how they taste.  This job requires extensive tasting of large quantities of product and will also require you to perform some additional duties, including data entry, filing, word processing, sample preparation, etc. 

 

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

 

  • Advanced sensory acuity, as determined through screening sessions (see acuity testing section below)

 

  • Ability to describe different tastes, smells, and textures

 

  • Ability to work in small groups

 

  • Free from allergies and food related diseases (see health statement below)

 

  • Some knowledge of computer systems

 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

 

  • Enthusiasm and availability

 

  • Interest in a regular, longer term, part-time position

 

  • Willingness to work on-site or from home (if COVID related restrictions are in place)

 

In this position, you would play an integral role in the development of new products as well as maintaining and enhancing product quality of existing products, identifying flavor or texture problems and their sources, and providing direction for corrective actions/product improvements. Applicants should have an interest in learning more about foods and beverages. 

 

Acuity Testing

 

You will be asked to participate in physical acuity testing (on-site at the Bridgewater office).  This includes a series of tests to determine whether your sense of taste or smell is impaired.  Taste and smell testing will be performed to determine if you have any taste and smell disorders, including reduction in the ability to taste or smell; total loss of taste or smell ability and/or taste or smell distortions.

 

Health Statement

 

Please be advised that as a taste tester, the essential functions of your position will be to taste products of all types. For your safety, we will not hire any individual who has ANY food allergies or food sensitivities.  Additionally, we will not accept individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have dentures/false teeth, or have any condition/s that would prevent him or her from smelling/tasting products.

 

Training & Practice Sessions

 

It is important that potential panelists understand the time commitment necessary to hold a position as a taste tester on this panel. After the acuity testing, new taste testers will join an established panel and will also have training and practice sessions for continued onboarding.

 

Vacation time/time off needed during scheduled training/practice and/or subsequent panel sessions will need to be communicated and approved by the panel leader ahead of time. If sessions are missed without prior approval, you may risk loss of your spot as a taste tester.

 

Normal panel hours range between 9:00 am – 1:00pm, over 4 weekdays each week; but could span 3 to 5 days a week. Although every effort is made to maintain consistent panel hours, client needs, and project timing are beyond our control and may result in session cancellations or additions.
