Position: Senior Executive – Shipping

Position Summary:

The candidate is responsible to ensure outstanding delivery services for all import and export operations by maintaining accurate Management Information System (MIS) reporting, coordinating with external authorities to secure necessary releases, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness in billing and stakeholder payments.

A day in the life of the role:

• Oversee all import/ export shipping operation and supervise extended 4PL team.
• Review and validate shipping bills and service entries before approval.
• Monitor reports to track shipments, documents, deliveries, and payments.
• Report all extra shipment costs (demurrage, detention, rent) and maintain timely MIS updates.
• Maintain shipping trackers, support operational reviews and efficiency improvement projects.
• Act as escalation point for shipping issues and coordinate with shipping lines/forwarders.
• Provide freight rate forecasts, benchmark rates, and support global logistics provider contracting.
• Ensure timely payments and track approval turnaround times.
• Maintain General Shipping Instructions and ensure adherence to clearance SLAs.
• Identify process gaps, implement improvements (GSTD, DIMAC) and drive digitalization initiatives.
• Liaise with external authorities (SLSI, Atomic Energy, NIHS, Customs, etc.) for required certificates and releases.

What will make you successful?

• Education: A degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or any relevant field
• Expected experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the field of Supply Chain. Experience in inbound/ outbound shipping operations, freight forwarding, shipping documentation, import/ export processes, or transportation will be an added advantage.
• Language skills: Fluency in English and Sinhala
• Other skills: A strong understanding of international trade, thorough knowledge of local market regulations (customs, transportation, freight), and proficiency in maintaining operational controls, documentation, and reporting.
