Position Summary 
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our Purina team in Gatwick.  Through industry leading management and analysis of Purina's internally and externally available data assets, you will create and deliver commercially actionable insight that meet the needs of identified and potential business risks and opportunities. You will liaise with other team members to understand business needs, and scope and build solutions to meet these needs.

A day in the life of a Data Scientist…

Reporting to the Head of Insight and Data Science, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading production of automated dataflows
  • Define and build databases that combine and store data from multiple sources
  • Build interfaces for existing and created databases in Business Intelligence tools and query languages
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to deliver projects that meet business reporting and analysis needs in a more efficient manner
  • Act as champion for best-in-class data management throughout the business
  • Conduct needs analysis on ways of working to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies
  • Create engagement and usage of tools, enabling (where appropriate) a self serve model that enables better commercial outcomes
  • Utilise advanced analytics techniques to combine and analyse "big data" sets
  • Deliver a suite of exception reporting to automate generation of opportunities and threats
  • Build intuitive data visualisations in a suite of tools, ranging from Excel through to BI tools through to ad hoc interfaces in query languages such as R and Python
  • Utilise artificial intelligence and machine learning principles to maximise the value derived from data assets while minimising manual work
  • Define qualitative research needed to fill gaps in knowledge that can't be achieved through extant data, then conduct and manage such research through a suite of agile research methodologies
  • Upskill your immediate and wider team, and the business at large, in key analytical techniques
  • Delivery on key insight and data, and acting as centrasingular point of contact into business processes (Integrated Commercial Planning (ICP), Monthly Business Planning  (MBP) etc.)
  • Contribution as necessary to the insight team's deliveries to the Integrated Commercial Planning  (ICP) process, including delivery of roadshows, insight immersion days and consumer focus groups, as well as management, relevant contribution to and delivery of the briefing process
  • Embedding key insight and research project and findings through the business
  • Oversight and overall accountability for Purina's ROI projects
  • Lead and develop junior members of the Insight, MDO and wider teams


What will make you successful? 
With previous experience of working with a broad array of teams to deliver complex data science projects, you’ll have a proven record of delivering insights and feeding them into an organisation’s KPI’s and acting as the key point of insight in commercial process. Previous experience in managing relationships in complex and cross functional teams and projects is essential.

 

Key skills and knowledge will also include:

  • Expertise using the Microsoft Azure stack
  • Expert in Microsoft data management tools such as Excel, Access and Power BI
  • Advanced use of DAX, Power Query and higher-level Excel functions (VBA / macros, Power Pivot)
  • High level of SQL skill
  • Proficiency in statistical computing / programming language - preferably R or Python - and key libraries (e.g. pandas, numpy)
  • Experience of data mining
  • Skilled in Advanced Maths, particularly statistical analysis
  • Expert in data visualisation
  • Experience with building and optimising machine learning models
  • Very strong communication skills, in particular the ability to communicate the complex work being undertaken in a simple and clear manner
  • Ability to translate findings from data manipulation and analysis into clear insights
  • Well versed presentation skills
