We are recruiting for an experienced Day Shift Technician, to join our team based at our state-of-the-art Coffee production factory in Dalston, Cumbria. This is a permanent opportunity which will report into the Manufacturing Maintenance Manager.
Nestlé Dalston Factory in Cumbria is the European Centre for cappuccino and creamers producing a range of beverage products. These are produced through a highly automated PLC controlled process plant and automated filling and packing lines. It is continually developing and expanding leading brands such as Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffeemate. The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing Lean/TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved.

Your impact
Ultimately, you will support the factory in ensuring timely and efficient completion of maintenance and compliance-driven tasks. The site is heavily focussed on continuous improvement, and your expertise will support the factory to move towards its ambitions in this area. A keen eye for detail when it comes to cost, compliance and safety will also be important in this role.
Your other key responsibilities will include:
- You will be working to drive improvements in the performance of machinery and assets, technically supporting the shift leader and developing the technical skills within the engineering and operational teams.
- Participating and positively contributing to site initiatives as requested to include HACCP, ISO9002, CDM etc.
- Raising purchase orders where required, liaising with the Maintenance co-ordinator to ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained within budgetary constraints.
- Full ownership with action generation and closure for a particular area to ensure a dramatic step change can be demonstrated in a timely manner.
Your ingredients for success
To be successful in this role you will already have strong engineering ability along with initiative and attention to detail as well as experience of modern manufacturing techniques such as 5S, LEAN and TPM would be ideal.
Previous experience within an FMCG Engineering role would be desirable but other Engineering experiences will also be considered.
You will:
- Be educated to HNC or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering and/or equivalent experience in an Engineering time served apprenticeship.
- Be able to demonstrate skills working on pneumatics systems, process equipment including gearboxes drives, pumps, valves, and/or packaging equipment.
- Possess a logical fault-finding approach to breakdowns.
- Be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or product quality.
