Location: Nestlé East London Factory
Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Instrumentation.Trade certificate in Instrumentation (red seal) is mandatory.
- N6/S4 in Instrumentation or Digital Electronics or Electrical engineering
Experience: Previous experience on instrumentation is essential (min 3 years), preferably FMCG environment

Position Summary
As an Instrumentation Technician, you will be working to drive improvements in the performance of machinery and assets, reporting to the Automation Engineer on a daily basis.
The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved and it is expected that you will play a key part in this.
You will be responsible for the calibration / maintenance of instrumentation onsite to ensure we are 100% compliant with food safety standards. Attending to instrumentation faults and breakdowns in the factory as well as calibration of all equipment and instrumentation (Metal detectors/Xray/etc) are some of the main duties.
What will make you successful
- Previous experience on instrumentation is essential (min 3 years)
- Tertiary qualification in Instrumentation. Trade certificate in Instrumentation (red seal) is mandatory.
- N6/S4 in Instrumentation or Digital Electronics or Electrical engineering
- Be able to read Engineering drawings
- Be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or product quality
- Experience of hazardous area ratings and installations
- Knowledge of controls systems, data interfaces and communications protocols.
- Familiarity with process control through PLC systems. Allen Bradley PLC experience will be a added benefit.
- Leadership skills are critical i.e. facilitation skills in leading team meetings & coaching and mentoring of production staff on instrumentation equipment
- Good interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical & problem solving skills
Long Description
- Incumbent has to be pro-active and prevent breakdowns on his/her patrols and shows initiative to continuously improve equipment performance
- Carry out the planned maintenance required on plant
- Install, service, repair and maintain existing and new equipment
- Attend to instrumentation l faults and breakdowns in the factory
- Calibration of all CCP equipment and instrumentation (Metal detectors/Xray/etc)
- Repair and maintain all aspects of date coding equipment
- Faultfinding and programming on instrumentation equipment, PLC’s and VSD,s
- Ensure machine availability for production targets to be met.
