Position Summary

Learn from our experienced engineers and technicians while gaining valuable real world experience in a highly automated food manufacturing facility!  If you are working towards a career in the rapidly growing field of industrial automation, we have an exciting internship opportunity within our electrical and automation (E&A) department.  You will be able to directly impact the business while working with the latest technologies: PLCs (Allen Bradley/Siemens), HMI/SCADA (Wonderware), VFDs, servos, industrial Ethernet, and more!  Your schedule will be flexible so you can continue your education simultaneously.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 
Assist E&A Engineers and Technicians with the following:

  • Project execution – support the electrical and automation portion of maintenance and investment projects from beginning to end:
  • Design – develop bill of materials, cost estimates, timelines, create/update electrical drawings
  • Procurement – develop bid specifications, order components, perform bid analysis
  • Execution – PLC/HMI programming, device configuration (VFDs, instruments, etc.), field wiring, contractor management (electricians/programmers), I/O checkout, testing, start-up support, documentation updates
  • Obsolescence and spare part planning – analyze the current install base and review the availability of spare parts and product lifecycle status; propose changes required for continued support/part availability
  • System maintenance – ensure existing electrical and automation systems are properly maintained through regular inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance activities
  • Operations support – provide technical support and troubleshooting of existing electrical and automation systems to minimize unplanned downtime
  • Incident investigations – review downtime and quality deviations to determine root cause and implement preventive actions

Safety and Environmental:

  • Follow all plant safety rules
  • Report incidents and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintain compliance with all safety and environmental regulations, policies, and objectives

Quality:

  • Follow Nestle GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Report food safety and quality issues immediately
  • Maintain compliance with all food safety and quality regulations, policies, and objectives

 

Education: 
Currently enrolled in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in automation engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related filed.  Completion of at least one year (2 semesters) of course work.
Experience: 
Preferred:  Classroom and/or laboratory experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), wiring diagrams, and industrial electronics.
 

Skills:
Reading/writing PLC ladder logic (especially RSLogix/Studio 5000)
Reading and understanding wiring diagrams
Troubleshooting industrial electrical systems (24 VDC, 120 VAC, and 480 VAC three phase)
