Position Summary

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is a key technical expert in our highly automated food manufacturing facility. You will have a high degree of autonomy and be relied upon to provide informal leadership to contractors, production, maintenance, technicians, and project teams.  As a system owner/expert for MES, Wonderware System Platform, and the Factory Automation System (FAS), you will be influential in creating a strategic vision for the future.  
 
Key Responsibilities: 
• Manufacturing execution system (MES) including communication to SAP as well as PLC interface code
• Wonderware System including GR, AOS’s, Historian, Info Server, Thin Clients, and PLC communication
• Programming Computers & Software – installation of programming software (e.g. Rockwell Software) on engineering programming computers
• I/O Network – locally managed network for Ethernet communication between automation layer equipment (PLCs, remote racks, VFDs, instruments, etc.)
• Additional FAS Systems/Software – Vigilistics CIP Reporting, Beamex Calibration, Thinmanager, Digital Manufacturing Operations (DMO), Data Reporting, etc.
• Includes hardware and software for above systems (server hardware, computers, thin clients, VMs, Microsoft operating systems, SQL server, network switches) 
• Troubleshoot issues as needed (including limited on-call support)
• Ensure system health through automated monitors and regular (daily/weekly/monthly) system checks
• Coordinate regular system patching with IT and system users
• Maintain compliance to corporate standards in regard to hardware, software, and security
• Incident reviews / investigations
• Corrective actions and opportunities for improvement
• New data displays or reports
• Actions/requests from the business unit(s)
• Including proper change management, documentation, commissioning, and validation (as needed)
• Responsibility for MES/WW/FAS/DMO portion of projects (all aspects of SME/ownership areas)
• Cost estimation, budgeting, procurement, bid processes, scheduling, documentation, change management, contractor management, commissioning, validation, etc.
• Share expertise and provide training to build the competencies of fellow engineering team members
• Develop strategy in regard to MES/WW/FAS/DMO (prioritization, planning, roadmaps, etc.)

 

Experience and Education Requirements:
• Associate degree that relates to computer science, information technology, or similar and 3+ years of relevant experience
• Ability to work flexible hours (as required for projects & on-call support, but majority is M-F first shift)
• Minimal travel (typically 0-5% for personal development training and project related site/vendor visits)
