Position Summary:

Provides the strategic direction for maintenance & facilities operations that supports factory operations.  The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling the maintenance and repair of production factory, including all equipment, facilities & grounds.  Ensure the maintenance department provides the highest quality of service to the plant. This high quality service includes minimizing downtime, supporting safety and sanitation and minimizing cost by encouraging innovative and progressive solutions.

 

In alignment with Act 593(B), this position is considered safety sensitive as this employee is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling the maintenance and repair of production, including all equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintains the physical plant, facilities and all equipment in a fully operational state, which supports our production requirements while at the same time managing costs.

 

  • Optimize maintenance support to provide technical and human resources to maximize equipment/ process reliability.   Effectively use maintenance team members to obtain maximum efficiency and utilization of each member of maintenance group.  Effectively delegate assignments so members of maintenance group are always productive and follow-up with results to ensure accountability

 

  • Develop and implement Maintenance Reliability Systems that will facilitate the continuous improvement of production processes. Resolve recurring breakdown problems with production equipment. Develop and implement methods of preventing breakdowns.

 

  • Modify or build support equipment as directed by engineering and / or operations through effective internal resource use or coordination of external resource.

 

  • Analyze high downtime production equipment as reported, on a regular basis, and work with plant engineering to resolve problems

 

  • Prepare, implement and execute department expense and capital budgets.

 

  • Implement and support processes that will provide development opportunities for people and drive accountability.
  • Create an environment that will support continuous improvement.  Utilize all technical talents within the facility and Nestlé division to resolve operating problems requiring technical assistance

 

  • Engineering Functional Assessment: Ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement in the maintenance area

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

 

  • Makes frequent autonomous decisions under the direction of Factory Engineering Manager. 

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

 

  • Leads team of up to 12 Maintenance professionals and indirect leadership for up to 70 hourly maintenance personnel.  Has oversight of external contractors.
  • Has new constant interaction and collaborative work with all factory departments.
  • Has frequent interaction with equipment vendors.  Communicates with and has oversight of external contractors (electrical, machining, plumbing etc).
  • Has occasional interaction with external agencies, offices.

FINANCIAL/STRATEGIC IMPACT:

 

  • Plant KPI’s of  Safety, Quality, Performance and Cost 
  • Department operating budget.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

 

  • A Bachelors in Engineering or related field (e.g. Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is desired) is required. Manufacturing experience in a food production setting is desirable.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of food safety & regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering.

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Five years in a similar role in a manufacturing environment is required with a career path demonstrating continuous progression. 
  • Experience working in a TPM environment is desirable.

SKILLS:

 

  • Superior planning skills are required.
  • Able to understand and to clarify complex problems.  Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
  • Able to identify and suggest new opportunities and then translate those into actions.
  • In-depth knowledge of food processing Equipment Maintenance and Technology.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication and service-minded results.
  • General understanding of financial analysis, budget reports and relevant business drivers.
