POSITION SUMMARY:

The position will provide process engineering technical support to operations.  In this role, the individual will plan, design, implement and manage continuous improvement systems to enhance business objectives and operational performance. This may include developing processes and procedures for manufacturing and packaging, performing validation evaluations and writing/executing validation protocols.   Additional responsibilities include developing and managing data collection systems for continuous feedback to production and maintenance as well as assist with the preparation and execution of capital and expense projects.   

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Technical expertise and leadership in his/her area of responsibility:

  • Lead, design, install, commission and start-up as well as maintain and improve the liquid, kitchen, and aseptic process and equipment.
  • Responsible for the process engineering and improvements in the areas of Material Handling, Ingredients preparation, Receiving, CIP, Liquid & kitchen Process and aseptic process
  • Ensures compliance of process parameters and operational conditions with USDA and FDA regulations.
  • Responsible for improvement initiatives that define equipment data, equipment capabilities, utilization, efficiencies and obsolescence.
  • As subject matter expert, provide technical leadership in the areas of CIP, liquid & kitchen process, and aseptic operations.
  • Authors and reviews documents including Preventive Maintenance plans, Standard Operating Procedures, Batch Records, Material specifications, and other forms. Author and review validation and change control documents such as master plans, validation protocols, summary reports and change requests
  • Develop project justification and engineering proposals for capital credit submission. 

 

Resolving Problems:

  • Proficient on problem solving methodologies (DMAIC, GSTD or BDA)
  • Proficient on data analysis and loss deployment
  • Proficient skills in troubleshooting mechanical, process, and automation related issues

 

Planning and Organizing:

  • Utilizes the process to analyze available data, plan, design, and implement the best value options that result in low cost/high efficiency and renovation/innovation improvements (including the development and organization of necessary systems). 
  • May own one or more Focused Improvement systems.   

Communication:

  • Coordinates with the Business Unit, Engineering, Maintenance, and others as necessary to provide information regarding necessary improvements to equipment / processes to reach targets.  
  • Participates in budget preparation and capital expenditure recommendations.  
  • Tracks and reports progress on departmental DMAICs, GSTD and BDA. 
  • Utilizes the Management of Change process as needed.

 

Training:

  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert to provide assistance as necessary to the Supervisors and Training Coordinators to provide appropriate training to employees entering the department or as needed for process changes.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Food Engineering or equivalent required with experience in the food, beverage, or dairy industries preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum requirements:

  • 2+ years of engineering experience in Thermal Process, CIP or equivalent in an FDA, USDA or PMO regulated food, beverage, or dairy plant
  • 2+ years of Project Management experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience with UHT / Aseptic operation in a food, beverage or dairy plant
  • Experience with process control of liquid or aseptic processes
  • Knowledge on CIP systems, Hygienic engineering, food industry GMPs
  • LOTO and line break safety procedures identification and development

 

 SKILLS

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; ability to analyze data. 
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to complete major projects. Ability to develop and execute validation documents. 
  • Ability to schedule resources effectively so continuous improvement is not sacrificed for day-to- day results.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
