POSITION SUMMARY:
The Raw Material Supervisor is responsible for the quality oversight of incoming raw materials, packaging, and fresh produce. The position requires close collaboration with local and corporate purchasing, corporate quality, scheduling, operations, and laboratory teams to enable timely, risk‑based quality decisions that support uninterrupted production. The Raw Material Supervisor is a key contributor to raw material HACCP risk assessments and supports supplier risk evaluations, including limited participation in external audits for new raw material suppliers.
Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, a high sense of urgency in material release decisions, and the ability to operate effectively with minimal backup in a fast‑paced, 24/7 production environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Raw Material Release and Quality Decision Making
- Manage standard and exceptional releases of materials and non-conforming materials as well as material holds.
- Partner with corporate food safety experts to perform risk assessments on new materials.
- Ensure all materials meet established chemical, physical, and microbiological specifications.
- Coordinate verification testing with internal and external laboratories
- Create and maintain non-conformances, quality processes, and documentation to support final material disposition of materials.
- Execute batch and SLED changes including extensions, corrections, sampling, and tempering adjustments.
Quality Systems
- Maintain SAP master data and material inspection plans for raw and packaging materials.
- Serve as a HACCP team member with responsibility for Raw Material HACCP, risk assessments, and supporting quality monitoring schemes.
- Maintain all required documentation to ensure full material traceability and regulatory compliance.
- Trace material and pallet movement to support investigations, audits, and other compliance activities.
- Provide direction, guidance, and training on quality requirements and processes for raw and packaging materials.
- Maintain sampling plans and standard operating procedures related to raw materials.
Supplier Quality and Corrective Action Management
• Manage supplier communication, documentation collection, and approval routing
• Lead supplier quality processes, including corrective action management
• Drive supplier root cause analysis, corrective action development, and response review/approval
• Coordinate onsite supplier visits as needed
• Performs external supplier audits to verify compliance with quality and regulatory requirements
Additional Responsibilities:
• On call quality support with limited backup in a 24/7 environment
• Lead and support raw material quality staff through scheduling, coaching, and escalation management.
• Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with team leads to drive performance and alignment.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
- Bachelor's (BA or BS) in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or a science related field is preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related Quality experience required in a manufacturing regulatory environment (food or pharma preferred); exposure to ready to eat snacks ideal. Exposure to raw materials preferred.
- 1-3 years leadership experience highly preferred; exposure to the audit process.
- Proven track record in delivering results by working with cross-functional teams and different initiatives.
SKILLS:
• Ability to coordinate multiple activities amongst diverse groups of people – both on site and off location.
• Comfortable driving alignment and decisions across multiple stakeholders.
• Abilit to work independently.
• High sense of urgency for material release decisions
• Must demonstrate excellent and timely verbal and written communication to multiple levels within the organization.
• Ability to interpret analytical data.
• Must be computer literate and proficient in MS Office and SAP systems. Will learn other software systems to perform job duties.
