POSITION SUMMARY:
Factory Specialist Thermal Processing works under the direction of the Food Safety Manager, Senior Specialist Thermal Process, and NUSA Thermal Process Expert to ensure compliance to all internal and external regulations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains daily Thermal Process activities of the factory
- Prepare Thermal Processing Specifications for each thermal process, review, trend and troubleshoot daily thermal process records, thermal processing CCPs and calibration records. Escalate issues and develop/execute corrective and preventative actions.
- Support Senior Thermal Process Specialist with:
- Re-validating existing Thermal Processes and re-qualifying Thermal Process equipment by assisting in coordination of equipment maintenance, verification, data back-up and validation, co-ordinate and assist with process establishment and validation studies by Thermal Processing Experts, prepare factory sterility control program and establish failure rate limits, perform temperature and time distribution tests
- Interpretation and enforcement of relevant internal and regulatory policies/procedures pertinent to food safety, quality, sanitation, and operations.
- Implementation of scheduled thermal processes and specifications, working with process authorities, internal experts, technical teams, and regulatory agencies to ensure that all scheduled thermal processes are properly established, maintained, and documented.
- Compliance to FDA and government regulatory agencies concerning record keeping and aseptic operations
- Thermal processing projects, activities, and training
- In the event of serious non-compliance, has authority to stop a Thermal Process or a line producing thermally processed products responds timely to issues, establish corrections, responsible for the identification of process deviations / non-conformances and the implementation of actions to ensure product safety and commercial sterility, leads incident investigations and prepares summary reports.
- Ensures that Thermal Process reports and related documents in the factory are up to date: contributes to HACCP studies and plans, maintain complete documentation for all manufactured products, prepare operating procedures for factory thermal processing operations.
- Participates in all relevant audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent (microbiology, chemistry, food technology, process engineering or another related field)
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 to 5 years previous experience in a food manufacturing or manufacturing setting preferred.
- Better Process School Certification
- Knowledge of application of federal regulations including 21 CFR 113, 21 CFR 110 preferred.
- Experience in a regulated food manufacturing environment with exposure to 21 CFR 113, 21 CFR 110, and ISO 22000 preferred.
SKILLS:
- Ability to work effectively and communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
- Highly organized, ability to troubleshoot and drive appropriate corrective/preventative actions.
- Effective leadership, reading, writing, communication, and computer skills.
- HACCP Development
- Strong written communication and planning skills
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Establishes credible working relationships with peers and senior management.
- Flexible working extended or off shift hours when necessary.
