Job Summary
Assists in the management of quality control activities for all phases of production, personnel, and laboratory operations. Utilizes experience and interpersonal skills to identify and resolve deficiencies. Directs the shift’s quality control operations by scheduling and assigning workloads; and maintains close rapport with production to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting quality. Directs product quality surveillance of manufacturing areas conducts periodic sanitation inspections and performs appropriate periodic bacteriological environmental inspections in critical plant areas; supervises special inspections of incoming rail cars/trucks. Coordinates with production in the monitoring of packaging lines for the effective control of weights, metal detection, codes and product/packaging integrity. Coordinates and troubleshoots for product cooking tests, sensory tests, sampling needs, analytical tests and product specification measurements. Coordinates training programs and monitors progress projects; learns and implements new tests/procedures. Maintains effective records and files, summarizes data, and prepares and interprets reports for use by management.
Quality Assurance Supervisor
• Coordinates with production the monitoring of processes and procedures to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement
• Manage quality assurance floor support team and / or Micro and Incoming Goods Lab associates.
• Manages relationships with internal and external customers, suppliers, colleagues, and support services.
• Develop all needed detailed risk assessments for QA Holds and drive completion of corrective/preventative actions through Local Leadership Teams/Daily Operational Reviews to achieve First Time Right targets
• Site ownership of various Quality and Food Safety Systems (as assigned)
• Responsible to promote and enforce a food safety culture and be an active participant in the Food Safety Team.
• Responsible to update HACCP, QMS, and SOPs as needed and ensures training of associates at all levels on quality programs.
• Identify training needs and recommend programs to develop employee potential.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Nestlé guidelines pertaining to safety, heath, and environmental
• Ensure compliance for ISO (9001 and FSSC 22000) through verification activities, system ownership and internal audit program support.
• Identify and execute strategic continuous improvement projects with a primary focus on Quality and Food Safety (SHE, Cost, People and Efficiency as well through Performance Development Plan activities)
• Active coaching/training of Final techs and cleaning associates
• Review daily standard routines and documentation, provide support/feedback as required
• Support overall TPM activities to drive continuous improvement
Incoming Goods Support (as needed)
• Ensure that all ingredients, packaging materials and finished goods are sampled, evaluated and dispositioned promptly
• Communicate raw goods, microbiological, and quality problems to QA manager, Purchasing, Production Control, and Production and Warehouse personnel. Recommend corrective action and provide technical assistance.
• Inform Corporate Quality Assurance high-risk incidents involving raw goods, which may affect other plants and recommendations to improve the raw goods sampling plan, ingredient specifications and inspection procedures.
• Supervise (as assigned) and develop incoming goods lab personnel.
• Coordinate the rejection and hold of all substandard commodities and finished goods. Ensure ingredients and finished goods on hold status are dispositional promptly.
• Review and prepare documented investigations for consumer food safety alerts
• Other duties as assigned
Back-up Qualifications
• Ability to fill-in for product release as needed
• Ability to fill-in for IG as needed
• Ability to support Traceability/Recall exercise as needed (i.e. off hours)
Qualifications
• B.S. Degree (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, etc.)
• 3-5 years experiencing in a food manufacturing facility at a Supervisor position or higher
• Demonstrated leadership skills, technical abilities, and decision-making skills. Must be experienced and proficient in the use of Microsoft office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
