Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Indirect Tax Manager to join our Gatwick based team. The Indirect Tax Team is responsible for compliance with UK & Irish Revenue regulations relating to VAT, CCL, SDIL, SSDT, Customs Duty, TAS and PSA, Intrastat and ESL returns. Working as an expert advisor you will be required to advise and guide the business on these matters including liaison with HMRC & Irish Revenue.

 

A day in the life of...

 

As an Indirect Tax Manager in Nestle you’ll work across most of the Indirect Taxes including UK & Irish VAT, customs duty (including Classification, Valuation, Rules of Origin and Preference), Soft Drinks Industry Levy, Sugar Sweetened Drinks Tax and Climate Change Levy. The Indirect Tax Team also has responsibility for payroll tax compliance and planning (Benefits in Kind, travel and subsistence rules, termination payments, status issues etc).  You will report to the Head of Tax and Head of Indirect Taxes whilst acting as a trusted advisor to the Nestle businesses and IT team, particularly in relation to ad-hoc VAT queries relating to Nestle products, business promotions and the configuration of SAP.

 

We are not expecting you to know all of these subjects on day 1 but we will expect you to have in depth UK VAT knowledge and experience (experience of Irish VAT would also be an advantage as would experience of SAP). We will expect you to demonstrate an aptitude and desire for learning those areas you are not currently experienced in through a mix of on the job training, seminars, courses and technical reading.

 

 

 Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Staying abreast of all Indirect Tax fiscal or legislative changes related to the UK&I businesses and ensure they are communicated across those businesses.
  • Oversee and review the output of the shared service centre in relation to VAT, Intrastat and ESL returns as well as the PAYE Settlement Agreement and Taxed Award Scheme returns.
  • Ensure accurate SDIL, SSDT and CCL returns are filed and the tax due paid by the due dates.
  • Ensure timely and accurate IPR returns are filed as required.
  • Undertake VAT, Intrastat and PAYE reviews of all the UK &I businesses on an as required basis.
  • Liaise with the data management and general finance teams as required to ensure the correct VAT liability and customs commodity codes are applied to new and existing Nestle products.
  • Liaise with IT to ensure correct configuration of SAP in regard to VAT invoicing and accounting.
  • Advise the Head of Tax on the Indirect Tax implications of corporate restructurings, acquisitions and disposals.

  • A formal Indirect Tax Qualification and / or proven relevant experience in the Indirect Taxes field within a large accounting organisation, HMRC or a large commercial organisation.
  • Flexibility and the agility to prioritise with proven ability to excel under pressure
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK and EU VAT legislation, experience of Irish VAT would be an advantage.
  • The desire to learn and broaden your knowledge and experience across Indirect Taxes; this is a prerequisite.
  • Good knowledge of SAP or another similar ERP system would be beneficial.
