A day in the life of a Category Development Manager...

It’s fair to say this is pivotal role within our Grocery Category Development Team where you’ll lead the category agenda with some of our top Grocers. The focus being to deliver category and shopper insight-based plans to drive the bottled water category for our business and our retail partners.  We're looking for somebody who will act as the ‘go to’ for all things relating to category and shopper activity, providing recommendations and strategic advice based on solid category insight both internally and externally to our retailers. Our aim is to be “Trusted for putting the shopper first”. 

 

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying category opportunities based on customer and shopper insights to develop and execute category strategies, unlocking great opportunities.  
  • Working pro-actively to manage customer range reviews, merchandising changes, store trials and ad hoc projects providing fact-based recommendations and solutions whilst ensuring all customer deadlines are met. 
  • Drive the category strategy development and execution which remains at the core of Nestlé Waters’ UK plans to harness growth for the category, influencing positive changes in shopper behaviour.
  • Collaborate with the commercial teams to harness the category and shopper growth opportunities to deliver an aligned commercial and category plan.
  • Evaluate our promotional effectiveness across the Grocery channel and embed learnings into future plans.
  • Influence the execution of shopper marketing plans to deliver the appropriate level of online and offline in-store marketing activity for Nestlé Waters brands.

What will make you successful?

You’ll have an eye for detail and a great breadth of category development, shopper development and/or sales experience ideally within an FMCG business, agency or similar. We're looking for somebody with great influencing skills and a proven track record of data analytics being able to analyse large data sets to drive actionable insight including interrogating data sources from Kantar, IRI and more to support category growth. You’ll also:

 

  • Have excellent attention to detail, it’s such an important part of the job!
  • Be comfortable in front of customers and be able to influence decisions by presenting with expertise on the category.
  • Work proactively whilst being part of a wider cross functional team that’s juggling multiple priorities. 
  • Have a real aptitude for MS Packages and if you have previous experience in space planning systems would be advantageous.
  • Flexibility and agility to solve challenges rapidly and creatively.
  • Ideally have category development experience with one or more of the top 4.
  • Ideally have experience in using loyalty card data (i2c, HIVE or Dunnhumby).
