Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Public Affairs team of Nestlé UK & Ireland, the world’s largest food and drink manufacturer. Nestle UK&I is at the forefront of a number of major policy issues, and we are looking for a Senior Public Affairs Manager to lead and implement a public affairs strategy for Nestlé UK&I relating to Nutrition, Health and Wellness and emerging health policy, which ensures that Nestlé UK&I and the sector is represented in Government policy on these core agendas. 

A day in the life of Senior Public Affairs Manager

With experience and understanding of planning and managing public affairs strategies across a range of topic areas, you will be identifying opportunities to represent Nestlé’s views on key issues with a variety of stakeholder groups.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Active engagement with key political, Government, industry, and NGO stakeholders across the UK & Ireland, including specific policy areas relevant to the devolved nations.
  • Represent Nestlé UK&I at relevant working groups of trade associations, in particular the Food and Drink Federation, and of the Food and Drink Sector Council
  • Cross functional working with other key functions and categories within the business to manage responses into Government on core policy areas – both UK and Ireland
  • Helping the business to navigate and understand implications of incoming regulations, working closely with colleagues across functions and in Brussels
  • Working closely with and managing external consultancies to support the business
  • Ensure the business is kept updated with the latest developments, contribute to the issues management committee and other internal committees focused on health; and make business aware of how future policy trends may impact it.
  • Ensuring internal policies and guidelines are being adhered to/complied with, for example internal marketing approvals on behalf of Public Affairs, and oversee Nestle Marketing to Children policy
  • Working with media and internal communications teams to help inform their work from a public affairs perspective

What will make you successful

As the successful candidate, you will have several years of experience of working in public affairs or within Government in UK&I market. This role needs someone who can be adept at prioritising and planning ahead; who is comfortable leading and driving the agendas they are responsible for across the business and externally; meeting deadlines; who can achieve results; and make an impact whilst building strong relationships with key group level stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and manage complex and high-impact projects with varying and shifting priorities, with superior organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of core policy areas, external influencers & the (health) policy environment.
  • Experience of engaging with external public health stakeholders and influencers.
  • Ability to work across a wide range of areas and issues.
  • Work within cross- functional teams and matrixed environments
  • Demonstrate analytical and conceptual problem solving- ability
  • High level of social competence and networking skills and have strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or FMCG would be beneficial
