Job Title: Field Buyer – Wheat Procurement

Location: State-specific (Candidate should be open to relocation as per crop catchment and business requirements)
Function: Procurement & Supply Chain
Reports to: Regional Procurement Manager – Agri Commodities


Role Summary

The Field Buyer will be responsible for driving end-to-end wheat procurement at the mandi and trader levels. The role focuses on ensuring fair price discovery, quality assurance, and efficient sourcing through strong on-ground connect and market intelligence. The incumbent will act as the company’s eyes and ears in the field, building a robust network across mandis, traders, and transporters while maintaining alignment with business and quality objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Market Operations & Procurement
    • Lead wheat procurement activities during the harvest season at mandi and trader levels.
    • Ensure timely buying aligned with quality and price benchmarks.
    • Facilitate transparent and efficient price discovery mechanisms.
    • Coordinate with internal quality, logistics, and finance teams for smooth execution.
  • Market Intelligence
    • Track daily mandi arrivals, prices, and competitor buying behaviour.
    • Collect real-time information on crop size, quality, farmer sentiment, and local trade trends.
    • Report structured market insights to central procurement for decision-making.
  • Stakeholder & Network Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with Adhtiyas, traders, mandi officials, quality inspectors, and transporters.
    • Develop a dependable supplier base across major wheat-growing regions.
    • Ensure ethical, compliant, and sustainable sourcing practices in all interactions.
  • Logistics & Operations
    • Coordinate dispatch planning and freight negotiations at field level.
    • Support smooth movement of goods from mandis to company silos or plants.
    • Monitor transit quality and minimize handling losses.
  • Cross-Commodity Exposure (Preferred)
    • Support procurement or market intelligence for allied commodities like bran, maize, or sugar when required.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Graduate/Postgraduate in Agriculture, Agri Business Management, or related field.
  • Experience:
    • 5–10 years of experience in agri procurement or mandi operations.
    • Prior exposure to a leading agri/FMCG companies preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of wheat quality parameters, mandi operations, and trade documentation.
    • Working knowledge of logistics, freight negotiation, and warehouse coordination.
  • Behavioral Skills:
    • Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
    • High integrity and compliance orientation.
    • Ability to work independently in field conditions with frequent travel.
    • Flexible to relocate based on seasonal catchments and commodity requirements.
