Position Summary

 

To support its research strategy, Food Safety Bioinformatics and Statistics group at Nestlé Research is seeking an Associate Bioinformatician for Food safety.

 

In this role, you will deliver bioinformatics and microbial genomics expertise (bacteria and yeast) to characterize products and ingredients for product development and food safety.

A day in the life of an Associate Bioinformatician for Food safety

 

  • Perform bioinformatics/genomics analysis for research studies applied to factory environment/product pathogen contaminations and to business strategic product development using, for example, variant calling, metagenomics and phenotypic characterization approaches.
  • Identify and evaluate the latest’s bioinformatics pipelines and participate in the design, development and improvement of specific bioinformatics analysis workflows under Linux environment.
  • Support/coach microbiologists in the use of genomic data through fit-for-purpose software and coordinate external contracts for tailor-made software development.
What will make you successful

 

  • MSc or PhD in Life Sciences with knowledge in microbial genomics, followed by a specialization in Bioinformatics or Computer sciences is a strong asset
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in bioinformatics under Linux environment, including in programming/scripting (i.e. Python, PERL, Bash, Awk…).
  • Experience in database design & management is an asset
  • Work experience with next generation sequencing data is mandatory
  • Good written and oral communication in English
