Position Summary
We are looking for a Microbiome/ Bioinformatics Intern to join our team and contribute to a research project in the field of the human gut microbiome.
The intern will work on computational, data-driven project using existing internal datasets. The focus is on understanding microbial functions and their relationship with nutrition and health.
Project - Food Intake Estimation & Microbial Vitamin Biosynthesis
This project explores how fecal DNA and metagenomics data can be used to:
- Estimate dietary intake based on food-derived DNA sequences
- Investigate vitamin biosynthesis potential by gut bacteria
- Integrate above derived estimates with dietary records and biological measurements
A Day in the Life of a Microbiome Bioinformatics Intern
- Conduct scientific literature reviews to understand existing knowledge and frame research questions
- Analyze shotgun metagenomics data using existing pipelines
- Apply and adapt bioinformatics tools to internal datasets
- Interpret and visualize results to support scientific discussions
- Document methods and analyses for reproducibility
- Collaborate with microbiome scientists and bioinformaticians across teams
- Scientific presentation of the results to project teams and research groups
What will make you successful
- Master’s student or recent graduate in microbiome, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or data science
- Hands-on experience handling sequencing data especially microbiome metagenomics data
- Familiarity with Linux, command-line tools, and HPC environments is a strong advantage
- Programming experience in Python and/or R is a plus
- Fluency in English, written and oral
