Position Summary 

We are looking for a Microbiome/ Bioinformatics Intern to join our team and contribute to a research project in the field of the human gut microbiome.

The intern will work on computational, data-driven project using existing internal datasets. The focus is on understanding microbial functions and their relationship with nutrition and health.

Project  - Food Intake Estimation & Microbial Vitamin Biosynthesis

This project explores how fecal DNA and metagenomics data can be used to:

• Estimate dietary intake based on food-derived DNA sequences
• Investigate vitamin biosynthesis potential by gut bacteria
• Integrate above derived estimates with dietary records and biological measurements

A Day in the Life of a Microbiome Bioinformatics Intern

• Conduct scientific literature reviews to understand existing knowledge and frame research questions
• Analyze shotgun metagenomics data using existing pipelines
• Apply and adapt bioinformatics tools to internal datasets
• Interpret and visualize results to support scientific discussions
• Document methods and analyses for reproducibility
• Collaborate with microbiome scientists and bioinformaticians across teams
• Scientific presentation of the results to project teams and research groups

What will make you successful

• Master’s student or recent graduate in microbiome, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or data science 
• Hands-on experience handling sequencing data especially microbiome metagenomics data
• Familiarity with Linux, command-line tools, and HPC environments is a strong advantage
• Programming experience in Python and/or R is a plus
• Fluency in English, written and oral
