Position summary 

 

The Principal Scientist, Analytical Development will support the development of therapeutics, focusing on both drug substance and drug product, from pre-clinical to first product registration. In this, the individual will lead and manage the analytical method development activities at contract development and manufacturing organizations with the goal of delivering preclinical and clinical drug product batches meeting program needs.


 

A day in the life of a Principal Scientist, Analytical Development

 

  • Lead external analytical method development, optimization and qualification/validation efforts in compliance with regulatory guidance
  • Support process development teams towards implementation of relevant analytical methods
  • Define phase appropriate product release specifications, develop strategies to establish characterization and comparability packages
  • Establish critical raw material attribute control and in-process control strategies
  • Support non-GMP and GMP stability studies for drug substance and drug product batches for multiple programs
  • Work collaboratively with Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs to ensure a high level of GMP compliance
  • Help draft the IND/BLA and IMPD/MAA sections for global submissions
  • Communicate clearly and concisely across multiple business functions, build effective relations with internal and external partners
  • Participate in GMP investigations, develop corrective action plans and implement such plans to resolve process and product issues
  • Exhibit drive and scientific curiosity to learn and contribute to the success of pharma product development

 

What will make you successful

 

  • PhD with 5+ years or MS with 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, education in pharmaceutics, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, or related scientific disciplines
  • Hands-on experience in developing analytical methods from early through late-stage development
  • Proficiency in analytical method development to support drug substance and drug product development and manufacturing
  • Experience with Quality by Design concepts and Design of Experiments
  • Ability to effectively work with internal teams and external service providers to meet the timelines while staying within approved budgets
  • Experience in drafting relevant regulatory documents
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
