Position Summary

 

We are looking for a Specialist Quantitative Microbiologist, to support the microbiologically safe design of products and processes through data analytics. You will perform microbiological food safety evaluations in response to technical assistance requests from R&D and operations.

 

Nestlé Research is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, employs approximately 1000 people and is comprised of five Nestlé Institutes: Food Sciences, Health Sciences, Food Safety & Analytical Sciences, Packaging Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences. A Day in the Life of a Specialist Quantitative Microbiologist

 

  • Work with a team of microbiologists to help create a strategy to build, maintain, and expand the use of data to support microbiological risk assessment
  • Collect, verify and analyze data related to microbial dynamics (e.g growth, inactivation, and survival)
  • Perform and communicate data visualization and predictive models for microbiology R&D projects
  • Help design and analyze studies, using a range of statistical methods and software
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians and statisticians to model data trends
  • Write scientific publications.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party microbiology laboratories.


What will make you successful

 

  • PhD degree in Food Science/Microbiology/Biology with specific expertise in mathematics or PhD degree in Mathematics 
  • Expertise in food safety microbiology
  • Relevant experience in a food science company, academia, or research center is preferred
  • Experience in microbial data analytics including statistical and probabilistic approaches, data visualization and modeling, and the use of programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
  • Experience in quantitative microbial risk assessment
  • Evidence of communication- both verbal and in writing, of complex scientific information to specialist and non-specialists audiences
  • Team player with a can-do attitude
  • High level of motivation and adaptability
  • Able to speak English fluently
