Position Summary

Your mission will be to investigate edible polymeric materials as coatings for food products to provide sufficient barrier properties.

It consists of four major research institutes: Health Sciences, Material Sciences, Food Safety & Analytical Sciences and Packaging Sciences. Nestlé Research published around 1,000 scientific publications in peer review journals over the last five years, and files about 80 patents every year. As a Master Trainee in our Nestle Institute of Packaging Sciences, your main activity will be to develop a natural, edible biopolymers to generate barrier shift on products. 
 

A day in the life of a Master Trainee in Food Packaging Materials – Edible Packaging


•    Screening of different food polymers dispersions and formulations thereof to create barrier against grease, moisture and oxygen 
•    Assess the functional properties of the coating such as barrier performance, water solubility, taste and visual impact
•    Ensure food safety and compliance of the coating formulation
•    Design and prototype machinery to simulate the coating technology on different food formats 

 

What will make you successful

•    Expertise in (food) polymer science and -formulation 
•    Education graduate or Masters in relevant field (food packaging, polymer chemistry or engineering)
•    Experience in laboratory analysis for mechanical and chemical performances
•    Develop, optimize and validate barrier assessment methodologies
•    Independently organize an activity and carry out experiments
•    Excellent communication skills in English, French is a plus 

 

Nestlé will contribute to partial accommodation fees and provide a right Salary to the candidate for 6 months (extendible to 9). In exchange, the candidate must be enrolled in a master student program and provide a final manuscript with the finding of the study including a detailed experimental part.
