POSITION SUMMARY:
The Scientist helps develop competitive solutions for product innovation and renovation based on the scientific and analytical elucidation of root causes of clearly identified issues and challenges. The Scientist will also establish sound hypotheses and experimental plans to validate, execute analysis and report results to Project Managers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Propose innovative ideas and methods aligned with project objectives
• Build and document knowledge about method developments and new competences in field of expertise
• Follow latest literature and patent applications, and integrate ideas into ongoing projects
• Propose, plan, and deliver technical and scientific support in projects
• Contribute to knowledge building and scientific activities in projects with initiative
• Present results/methods in written and oral form to interested parties or visitors
• Capture learnings from systematic investigations based on experimental plans in presentations and R&D reports
• Actively participate in project meetings
• Contribute to/participate in internal and external workshops and networks
• Support and drive analytical method development supporting project objectives
• Provide solutions to product development colleagues requiring scientific evaluations of product characteristics/processes
• Regularly communicate conclusions and next steps of competence building to technical counterparts
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & EDUCATION:
• Education background in chemistry or related science. Ph.D with 2-3 years of laboratory experience, or MSc with 5 years of laboratory experience minimum, or BS with 10+ years of laboratory experience
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in coffee is a plus, or related beverage sectors such as fruit juice, wine, beer.
• Experience in project management, effective communication skills and ability to work both in a cross functional team and independently.
• Possess advanced instrumentation skills - troubleshooting, preventive maintenance
• Experience with ISO Laboratory compliance a plus
• Proven experience in analytical chemistry developing applied science to support the development and optimization of food processing in beverage manufacturing.
SKILLS:
• Proven skills in HPLC and wet chemical testing methods, (ex: carbohydrates, proteins, and phytochemicals). Techniques such as LC, LC-MS, spectroscopic methods, and traditional bench chemical analysis (ex: pH, titrations, oven moisture) should be familiar.
• Ability to contribute innovative ideas to project teams and execute tasks independently
• Drive to deliver results
• Effective communication skills and reporting discipline
• Strong ability to build personal relationships and grow from feedback
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
• Curious, drive for results, taking initiatives and autonomous profile
