Nestlé Development Center Marysville is one of the longest-standing R&D centers in Nestlé’s worldwide network. Reporting directly to the Packaging Lead, the Packaging Specialist supports and manages packaging projects from ideation through development to implementation for different applications. Depending on the scope of the project the Packaging Specialist may support with leading and driving the project or could contribute within an assigned project team. The Packaging Specialist should have understanding of quality requirements for recycled plastics with ability to draft, or learn to draft, those into Technical Dossiers to guide factories and markets in executing implementation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support with driving global packaging development projects in the liquid coffee arena, including rigid and flexible applications for liquid coffee concentrates, coffee enhancers/creamers, ready to drink products.
- Help lead projects E2E, including ideation/concept phase, technical development resulting in feasibility-proof-of-concept, trials, line start-ups and final validation on the factory line, in collaboration with supplier and internal operation/SC factory teams.
- Work collaboratively with the project team to help drive assigned projects.
- Prepare and further support with defining success criteria, timelines and deliverables.
- Support implementation and start-up together with factory teams (it requires operational experience).
- Define packaging specifications and required technical documentation for each packaging component as final output.
- Ability to coordinate R&D activities and to provide guidance and support to markets in the implementation/homologation process for new recycled plastic resins (r-PET and r-Polyolefins).
- Work collaboratively with the market technical teams and the factory teams to support in successfully qualify new recycled resins for implementation.
- Ability to support with or learn to scout and assess new technologies and materials, including sustainable materials, propose proactively new concepts that fits business agenda and R&D requirements.
Job Qualifications (Minimum Education, Experience, and Knowledge)
- Bachelors Degree in Packaging Technology/Science/Engineering or related subject.
- 5 years in Packaging Development, R&D or in a factory preferred.
- Ability to manage and drive packaging projects autonomously E2E and to engage the appropriate resources to provide support
- Competences in Quality, and knowledgeable on safety and hygiene requirements.
- Competence in recycled plastic implementation process.
- Technical expertise and relevant experience in designing, developing and validating in a factory environment packaging solutions for liquid applications.
- Competences relevant for packaging development: knowledge on aseptic filling, competences in rigid plastic packaging (with focus on PET containers design-development), competences in technical design-development of injection molded parts (like caps and actuators, in polyolefins materials). Knowledge on flexible plastic materials and related filling technologies.
- Competences on homologation process for recycled plastic resins (mechanically recycled PET and polyolefins), including knowledges in conversion process of r-plastic from resin to preform to blown bottle.
- Knowledgeable about packaging quality and safety requirements, including screening and testing methods for contaminants. Understanding of quality requirements for recycled plastics with ability to to draft, or learn to draft, those into Technical Dossiers to guide factories and markets in executing implementation.
- Able to manage effectively communication and issue recommendation / actions plans with stakeholders. Manage Nestlé interfaces outside R&D, including marketing and SC/Operations. Work constructively with suppliers and co-mans to ensure technical solutions are developed and implemented on time in full.
