Nestlé Development Center Marysville is one of the longest-standing R&D centers in Nestlé's worldwide network. Here, we are the home of great coffee innovation - we provide technical development expertise for beverage products, working on well renowned brands Starbuck's, Coffee-Mate, Nescafe and Blue Bottle. Senior Engineers drive deployment and support innovation and renovation of products/processes/systems from inception and through all stages of development and industrialization in Pure Soluble Coffee. Senior Engineers provide strong technical guidance to team members and coaching and training in coffee processing while leading R&D activities and support projects to deliver sustainable, innovative, and competitive processes in their field of competence in response to business and consumer needs. Senior Engineers ensure proper upgrades of existing lines for new product deployment through upscale from Pilot Plant design and/or validation of modern technologies for the corresponding product category, while also ensuring new lines are properly designed to achieve manufacturing excellence in operations aligned with current Nestlé standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Proactively propose and drive innovative ideas/projects/methods to NPTC/R&D, SBUs (Strategic Business Unit) and Operations. Build and document knowledge about latest methods, trends, and developments in relevant field of activity. Explore breakthrough process or technology that leads to a competitive advantage in the Market. Lead and manage knowledge building and business-related project activities. Support the scouting of new/existing technologies with strategic suppliers and integrate flawlessly to operations in the markets.
- Lead the R&D team through the 5 key engineering project steps (basic design, detail design, construction, installation, and commissioning) and provide support to the R&D Center and markets in the CAPEX cycle. Develop and provide standards and best practice engineering solutions that enable the market to achieve competitive advantages in terms of product quality, safety, and competitive cost (TDC). Actively participate in defining, writing, and deploying standards in both engineering and manufacturing.
- Drive deployment of new products and/or process technologies in the markets by ensuring optimized engineering design in respect to total delivered cost, product quality and manufacturing KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), and carbon footprint. Validate pilot technologies and drive upscale of technologies efficiently to ensure vertical start-up and ensure market supply. Train and coach factory staff during visits and on-site Commissioning/Qualification/Validation.
- Collaborate with science and product development groups to achieve technically and scientifically proven solutions in pilot scale and drive industrial design with corresponding competence building of the technology at market level. Develop and deliver relevant documentation to specific projects (EDD).
Job Qualifications (Minimum Education, Experience, and Knowledge)
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, or Food Process) with 7+ years of food and beverage process experience
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead engineering projects with willingness to accept change and manage it
- Experience in food engineering or food processing facility related to beverages
- Participation & leadership of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
- Demonstrated ability to lead contractors and external engineering resources
- Experience with equipment start-up, commissioning practices and troubleshooting industrial process equipment
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to safety, compliance, and quality with a continuous improvement mindset
- Openness and curiosity for dynamic and future trends in technology
- Pride in contributing to the reputation and performance of the company
- Mobility to travel worldwide (10-15% travel)
