Position Summary

Position Summary: Responsible for organizing and executing pilot plant trials and associated support under direct supervision or independently.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Responsible to comply, follow and uphold all Food Safety, Food Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures as pertains to role

• Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to all applicable job specific safety rules including LOTO.

• Apply good manufacturing practices, follow SOPs, maintain a safe, clean and sanitary work area.

• Set up, start up, operate, clean and shut down food processing equipment

• Execute successfully equipment change over activities

• Light mechanical repairs, inspection and troubleshooting as required

• Maintain equipment in good sanitary and working condition

• Document trial data records and prepare summaries of trial results (Log Sheets, etc.)

• Support Project Leaders, Pilot Plant Team Members and others in pilot plant trial preparation, execution, follow up, review and process improvement

• Participate and complete all specified training programs, gradually learn how to operate roasting, extraction, aroma recovery, concentration, evaporation and drying equipment

• Support the review/update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Tech I Level Competencies:

• Apply basic calculations as illustrated in the training program.

• Understand the basic principles of coffee extraction, aroma recovery, and evaporation.

• Operate evaporator process with limited supervision.

• Able to trace and understand process flows on evaporator and clarifiers.

• Demonstrate to supervisor an understanding of the use of rupture discs and safety valves.

Tech II Level Competencies:

• Demonstrate to supervisor a full understanding of all pumps used in pilot plant.

• Make minor repairs on equipment and piping changes.

• Demonstrate knowledge of centrifuges.

• Demonstrate ability to run sediment, moisture, and powder density tests.

• Run cold room, batch freeze dryer and cells, under limited supervision.

• Demonstrate understanding of coffee extraction and aroma recovery.

• Demonstrate ability to operator evaporators and leak checking with minimal supervision Tech III Level Competencies:

• Ability to run cold room, under limited supervision.

• Ability to operate cells, stripping equipment, evaporation equipment, and various related equipment with minimal supervision.

• Ability to solve routine problems in processing operations.

• Assist in factory trials, if required. Tech IV Level Competencies:

• Ability to operate, troubleshoot and review SOP’s (standard operating procedures) for most pilot plant equipment without supervision
