Position Summary
Our Mechanicsburg factory, built in 1969, is located just eight miles west of Pennsylvania’s state capital of Harrisburg. Unique to this factory, it’s situated at a transportation crossroads where three of the U.S.’s most heavily-traveled interstate highways traverse the region. With 40 percent of the U.S. population located within 500 miles, including the metropolitan areas of New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., this area offers our associates both small-town living with quick and easy access to the “purrrrr-ks” of a big city. Our Mechanicsburg factory is one of the largest manufacturers in the area and produces a large portion of Nestlé Purina’s dry pet food portfolio, including Puppy Chow®, Dog Chow®, Beneful®, Pro Plan®, Alpo®, Kitten Chow®, Cat Chow®, Friskies®, Nestlé Purina ONE® and Kit ‘N Kaboodle®. Beyond our work in pet food production, we support various local animal shelters and organizations (Susquehanna Service Dogs Organization and Woofstock among others) to more deeply impact our ability to enrich the lives of pets everywhere.
As Quality Assurance Technician, you’ll develop, manage, review, and enforce the Pathogen Monitoring Program. You’ll be responsible for executing the physical preparation and distribution of a variety of material samples in an analytical laboratory environment. Apply appropriate communication and reduction techniques to customer submitted samples to assure representative test portions are suitable for analyses in the testing laboratories.
- Collaborate with sample entry and laboratory teams as well as processing and food safety personnel to review/update sanitation practices
- Test Finished Product as prescribed by Corporate for Dry and Specialty Pet production areas.
- Participate and achieve successful results on the quarterly bacteriological Salmonella and General Microbiology collaboratives.
- Serve as a qualified Biosafety Advisor (BSA) by maintaining compliance to Biosafety GI and following various corporate guidance documents
- Maintain and administer Internal Control Plan and QMS for the Bacti Lab, including maintenance and verification of adequacy of all Bacteriology lab equipment, calibrations, and ensuring hygienic lab conditions
- Initiate workflow of samples entered into laboratory information management system
- Prepare and label test portion containers appropriate for analyses to be performed
- Select and execute comminution and reduction of samples into representative test portions appropriate for analyses to be performed
- Maintain sample retention to assure sustained integrity throughout storage life
Requirements
- 2+ years working in a quality, food manufacturing, laboratory, military or related environment
OR
- 2-year degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or related field with applicable lab experience
The approximate pay range for this position is $45,000.00 - $59,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
