Position Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Distribution Center Manager for Purina based at our DC in Mississauga, reporting into the Distribution Center Manager. The incumbent will assist the DC Manager in operating the distribution facility in a productive and efficient manner, delivering product to meet customer needs within company quality standards and specifications. Also responsible for developing and managing the processes, which integrate the movement and storage of goods between point of origin to consumption for the purpose of ensuring superior levels of customer service. This encompasses the functions of warehousing, traffic, transportation, inventory control and customer service function, in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. In addition, responsible for managing and maintaining the Nestle Quality Management System.

A day in the life of...

As an assistant Distribution Center Manager, you will: 

 

Management: 
•    Lead the DC to achieve the agreed objectives (safety, environment, quality, cost and service). 
•    Proactively drive focused improvement. 
•    Ensure smooth operations by effectively managing Employee and Industrial Relations

 

Quality: 
•    Responsible for QA activities including; food safety audit, SSI audit, blocking/unblocking product.
•    Quality auditing and verification: Manage the internal auditing program, assessing the performance of the quality system, reporting its effectiveness to the management and proposing actions for improvement.

 

Annual Budget Process
•    Develop & Manage Operating Budgets
•    Develop annual Smalls Budget
•    NIMT program training submission of capital requests

 

Material Handling Fleet Management
•    Leases
•    Maintenance contracts

 

What will make you successful

As the successful candidate, you will need to be passionate, tenacious, results focused and really enjoy working in a highly energetic and exciting environment. You will already have warehouse experience. Pro-activity, tenacity and enthusiasm are essential, as is your ability to understand and work within our competitive market. 

 

You will also have:

 

•    Completion of Community College Diploma or University Degree in a related field is required.
•    Current certification to operate warehouse Material Handling Equipment including Propane Counterbalance, Reach Trucks, Powered Walkies and Scissor Lifts.
•    Possess 5 years’ experience in supervising daily operations in a warehouse setting.
•    Experience and profound understanding of the RF scanning technology.
•    Possess hands on knowledge in inbound receipts, inventory control, outbound order processing, material handling equipment, health and safety, human resources, and housekeeping matters.
•    Solid experience in managing team performance and miscellaneous personnel matters.
•    The ability to build a very strong team leading by example and providing guidance, training when needed.
•    Must have broad knowledge of legislations and seeks advice when appropriate.
•    Strong priority setting, organization and project management skills.
•    Exceptional written, verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
•    Decision making and problem-solving skills coupled with solid time management skills.
•    Positive energizing leadership that can generate results.
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
•    Positive working experience within a unionized environment.
•    Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
