What to Expect:
We are seeking a Distribution Centre (DC) Operations Supervisor who will report to the Distribution Centre Manager and oversee all facets of the Distribution Centre Operations Department, including scheduling, coaching, and training warehouse staff. This role requires the incumbent to foster a culture of trust and high performance through effective coaching while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and good manufacturing practices. Collaboration with the Distribution Centre team is essential for managing inventory levels and maintaining high customer service and efficiency, with flexibility to cover for absences as needed.
A day in the life:
- Ensure a safe work environment and foster a safety-oriented culture.
- Provide effective training and performance management for warehouse employees.
- Oversee all administrative controls related to shipping and receiving activities.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and ensure adherence to the "First In, First Out" principle.
- Supervise the movement of goods, including external aspects such as carrier selection, load planning, and cost/benefit analysis, as well as internal aspects like space planning and resource management.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Distribution Centres, Logistics, carriers, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with all departments to enhance overall operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Drive process improvements by coaching the warehouse team to identify potential savings and assist with their implementation.
- Manage the allocation of regular and overtime hours, ensuring appropriate vacation coverage.
- Conduct investigations and root cause analyses related to warehouse incidents.
- Handle bi-weekly payroll for union employees while adhering to the collective agreement.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Role Requirements
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in warehouse operations is required, preferably within a unionized environment, along with prior experience in warehouse operations, distribution, retail, or warehouse settings
- Required to work Night Shift: Sunday to Friday, 10:45pm to 7:00am (EST)
- Proficient in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions for safety-related issues
- Completion of a Post secondary education or experience deemed equivalent is required
- Strong computer skills, with a working knowledge of MS office Word, Excel & PowerPoint and warehouse systems
- Experience with any type of Payroll system; Kronos is preferred
- Ability to respond proactively to changing demands with short notice and effectively manage operational needs.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and leadership skills, as well as strong interpersonal and communication abilities to excel in a team environment.
- The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with strong analytical and organizational skills, capable of working independently and managing conflicting demands in short time frames.
- Ability to anticipate challenges and opportunities with proactive behavior.
