POSITION SUMMARY:  ​ The Quality Supervisor - Food Safety & Hygiene is the factory guardian and challenger of factory functions to drive food safety and hygiene anywhere and at any time as the essential base for maintaining consumer trust and preference.  The Supervisor, Quality position directs Quality Assurance while maintaining a close rapport with Production and the Quality team to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting quality. This role is a key position within the Quality Team, providing expertise and support to the Operations department and Factory Management staff, fostering a cross-departmental quality and compliance mind-set.

Primary Responsibilities:

People and know-how: Develop and maintain competences on food safety - Hazard Analysis Critical Control Plan (HACCP) and associated programs as well as hygiene- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and associated programs.  Apply the teacher, coach and assess model to ensure knowledge transfer.  Drive continuous improvement in QA functional competency.

HACCP:  Is able to plan, implement and enforce HACCP in the unit as per internal   and external requirements. Can guide the implementation (e.g. process of deploying and sustaining HACCP studies) and provide requirements to all stakeholders. Can get support from the relevant expertise required to ensure continuous improvement of the Food Safety programs. Can demonstrate that HACCP is in place and managed as part of unit routines (documentation, CCPs and OPRPs validation / verification & monitoring activities, PRPs robustness, limited gaps under control).

Hygiene: - Can provide expertise and support as well as verify and evaluate the hygiene status of the campus ensuring compliance to internal and external requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices. Is able to give necessary visibility to the management on gaps & weaknesses with proposed corrective and preventative action. Is able to demonstrate that system competence is in place and guide development of visual standards.

Quality System: Setup, manage, enforce and maintain all Nestlé Quality Management System related to food safety and hygiene. Ensure pre-requisite programs are established, validated as applicable and verified effective.  Implementation, management and verification of food safety and quality systems through validation of systems and controls.

Supervise the conformance, sustainability and improvement of Document Control identifying and implementing technological solutions as available.  Supervise identification and verification of improvements to the Management of Change quality systems.  

Quality Guardianship: Supervise the consumer complaint program for the site including trend monitoring, continuous improvement activities for prevention, detection and corrective actions resulting from trends or consumer feedback for domestic and export markets.  Coordinating all communications from the factory to the Factory Quality Manger. 

Support facility during internal and external audits and assessments including but not limited to: FDA, USDA, WDA, Kosher, Halal, ISO, NMS and other requirements

Quality assessments and verification: Manage the internal assessments to assure the performance of the quality system, reporting effectiveness to management and proposing actions for improvement. 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years related manufacturing experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years of Quality experience in a manufacturing environment; 1-2 years supervisory experience with a coaching/mentoring mindset.  Experience in regulated food manufacturing environment with exposure to 21 CFR 1069, 21 CFR 107, 21 CFR 117, lean manufacturing philosophy, and FSSC 22000/SQF regulations preferred. 

SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven planning and organizing skills, leadership, teamwork, and influencing or collaboration skills.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical skills required.
  • Must be able to manage multiple assignments.
  • Must be able to perform in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient with computer systems, personal computers, and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office, etc.) and mainframe system with custom applications.
  • Proficiency in SAP systems is preferred.
  • Ensures that factory sanitation programs are effectively implemented, validated, and maintained to ensure that all products are manufactured in a sanitary environment.  This includes assessment of the sanitation and hygiene of the facility environment (internal/external) as well as the processing and supporting equipment.
  •  Ensures that validated SSOP’s (Sanitation SOP’s) are in place for all sanitation and cross-contact (including allergen) management needs. 
  • Ensures that effective/efficient cleaning frequency is managed through an MSS (Master Sanitation Schedule). 
  • Coordinates activities with sanitation and operations managers to ensure the consistent execution of program procedures.
  • The cleaning program complies with Nestlé internal policies and procedures, as well as with any regulatory (Federal, State, Local) requirements. 
  • Acts as the primary contact with Third-party Sanitation partner and ensure that joint factory-specific objectives are established and achieved.
  • Manages the factory Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) and ensures that it has been implemented and maintained effectively to support a pest-free environment.  As manager of this program, will be the primary contact with Third-party Pest Control Partner and ensure that joint factory-specific objectives are established and achieved.
  • Actively involved in hygienic design and zoning review process at the factory for existing and new processes as well as the facility structure, including early management of design and capital review process.  Provides leadership/direction in hygienic design. 
  • Administers and manages the factory Sanitation/GMP/ and other related hygiene inspection programs.   This includes the management and communication of a formalized Corrective Action process to drive continuous improvement. 
  • Coordinates hygiene training and development of employees for all factory hygiene programs (areas include sanitation, GMP, Pest Control, allergens, and hygienic engineering). 
  • Promotes quality/hygiene awareness throughout the factory through coaching, training and participation in communication meetings. 
  • Actively participates in the delivery of quality training for the factory and contractors.
  • Active member of the factory HACCP and Food Safety teams.  Duties include identification of hazards and controls related to processes and environment, supporting PRP verification activities and providing the link with these activities back to the Food Safety team.

 

The approximate pay range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
