Position Summary:
 

The Retail Merchandise & Inventory Planner is responsible for demand forecasting, inventory management, assortment planning, and reporting for boutique retail locations. By analyzing sales, inventory, promotional, lifecycle, and customer trends, this role helps optimize product availability, inventory health, and business performance. The ideal candidate combines strong retail planning expertise with analytical and technical skills to deliver actionable insights and advance planning capabilities through automation, scalable reporting, and AI-enabled tools.

 

This is a hybrid position based in Nespresso’s New York City office, requiring a minimum of two days per week onsite.

 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Develop accurate forecasts and support promotional planning
  • Develop sell-out and sell-in forecasts using historical sales, seasonality, promotions, launches, boutique trends, and business inputs
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Supply Chain to validate assumptions, align volume plans, and support promotional and launch execution
  • Monitor forecast performance, identify recurring variances, and refine planning assumptions to improve accuracy and reduce bias
Optimize inventory levels and product availability across the end-to-end process
  • Manage inventory health to support boutique service levels, minimize out-of-stocks, reduce excess and obsolete inventory, and improve Weeks of Supply
  • Partner with Planning, Operations, Logistics, and 3PL teams to support product flow from production planning through on-shelf availability
  • Monitor boutique inventory levels, replenishment needs, capacity constraints, and safety requirements to prevent overstock situations and support store execution
  • Use planning tools, AI agents, predictive analytics, and exception reporting to automate data collection, anticipate stock risks and recommend corrective actions
Refine boutique assortment, product placement, and lifecycle performance
  • Build merchandise and assortment plans based on sales trends, customer behavior, boutique format, and regional performance
  • Analyze SKU performance and recommend assortment, placement, discontinuation, or lifecycle actions to improve productivity and sell-through
  • Support new boutique openings, renovations, seasonal programs, limited editions, and discontinued product planning
Build and sustain effective CPFR processes and relationships
  • Lead collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment processes with internal and external partners
  • Serve as the planning point of contact for boutique-related forecast, replenishment, assortment, and inventory questions
Drive AI-enabled planning, automation, and digital capability building
  • Build, improve, and automate recurring planning activities, including forecast files, inventory exception reports, promotional recaps, assortment analysis, and leadership dashboards
  • Use SQL for data queries and Python for automation, analytics, and process improvement
  • Apply AI and AI agents to summarize data, flag risks, compare scenarios, support forecast validation, and accelerate insight generation
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve data inputs, standardize reporting logic, document tool requirements, and support adoption of scalable planning solutions
Strengthen governance, reporting, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain planning governance, documentation standards, assumptions, decisions, risks, and follow-up actions
  • Develop dashboards, ad-hoc reports, and performance recaps that translate complex data into actionable recommendations
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities that reduce manual work, improve accuracy, increase speed to insight, and strengthen process adherence
  • Support delivery cost governance and recommend efficiency opportunities without compromising service, quality, or the boutique customer experience
  • Identify and lead improvements by leveraging AI and NCE tools to automate processes, close gaps, and enhance forecast accuracy
 
Experience & Education Requirement:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, in Business, Supply Chain Management, Merchandising, Analytics, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or MBA preferred, with a focus in Merchandise Planning, Retail Analytics, Supply Chain Strategy, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in merchandise planning, inventory planning, demand planning, retail planning, supply chain planning, or a related role.
  • APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with inventory management, demand forecasting, assortment planning, and replenishment strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with planning systems such as SAP APO, JDA, or similar platforms, as well as business intelligence tools including Power BI and Cognos.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong Excel modeling capabilities.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis, reporting, automation, and advanced analytics; exposure to AI and AI-enabled tools is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Solid understanding of retail performance metrics, including sell-through, stock coverage, margin, and markdown optimization.
  • Travel up to 10% may be required based on business needs

 

The approximate pay range for this position is $115,000.00 to $125,000.00 base salary. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop sell-out and sell-in forecasts using historical sales, seasonality, promotions, launches, boutique trends, and business inputs
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Supply Chain to validate assumptions, align volume plans, and support promotional and launch execution

Experience & Education Requirement:
