Position Summary

 

We are looking for a Sustainability Manager based at our North York office reporting into the SVP Corporate Affairs and dotted line to the Sustainability Director. The role requires a person with passion and experience in policy/ regulatory advocacy and sustainability. They should be a combination of influencer, advisor and facilitator on related Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and corporate sustainability action. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure compliance with environmental producer responsibility regulations, keep abreast of legislations across Canada and advocate for positive change. With a good business understanding, their role is to influence and prepare the company for regulatory changes, while maintaining synergies with Zone & Global strategies. The role also requires supporting and executing sustainability programs and events relating to employee engagement, youth initiatives, and external community stakeholders. Part of the role will also be dedicated to rolling out sustainability tools and level-setting resources designed to aid functions and categories on their sustainability journeys. In order to contribute to the success of these tools and resources the person will also have to report on research relating to industry trends and best management practices.

A day in the life of...

 

  • Manage EPR programs for Nestlé Canada. Monitor emerging regulations (federal, provincial and local) effecting Nestlé businesses and advise of regulatory changes and their impacts.
  • Regularly communicate a high-level summary on the areas of responsibility to Sustainability Director and SVP Corporate Affairs.
  • Liaise with other market businesses, and work closely with cross-functional teams, including Technical Packaging, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and Business Units to execute regulatory obligations, and act as subject matter expert.
  • Represent Nestlé in external forums as spokesperson, advocate positions, and create networks of influence and partnerships.
  • Support in the development and activation of sustainability tools that measure, track and predict progress and priorities, and streamline ways of working. 
  • Collaborating with communications team and related functions/businesses for annual Corporate Shared Values (CSV) Snapshot report, and cascading level-setting resources and tools.
  • Execute sustainability programs and events relating to employee engagement, youth initiatives, and external community stakeholders.

 

What will make you successful

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sustainability or a related field such as government or regulatory affairs, preferably Canada-wide experience.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental studies, regulatory/public affairs, or other related discipline.
  • Knowledge of environmental producer responsibility regulations for residential packaging/blue box programs.
  •  A credible leader that can impact across the organization with commercial and/or technical professional qualification. Work experience in related fields and passion for sustainability are a must.
  • Operating across a series of functions, the Sustainability Manager has a strong business understanding and is a skilled communicator, able to make the subject and topics relevant for the different functions, and at different levels in the company.
