The Technical Packaging Manager is a key member of the business operations team working to develop and execute the Innovation and Renovation (I&R) business strategies. The main responsibility is to work on the development and introduction of new packaging solutions and be the local guardian of packaging standards. The Technical Packaging Manager will manage technical projects and support factory(ies) and marketing on projects/ initiatives related to packaging.
A day in the life:
Execution of I&R Strategy:
- Ensure technical delivery of medium to high complexity I&R projects from concept to post launch evaluation using I2L by preparing, proposing and managing packaging projects in line with consumer needs, the business strategy and the operational set-up.
- Responsible to organize and document factory trials including machinability, shelf-life, storage handling, laboratory and transport tests for validation of new packaging and changes in specifications.
- Support to exploratory work into new business opportunities, assessing and communicating packaging technical feasibility.
Product and Process Technical Expert:
- Deliver continuous optimization / Improvement of current packaging, filling and palletization operations within factory(ies) according to local business needs and supply situation and/or implementation of initiatives
- Develop and maintains within TAG the competencies required for packaging mastership
- Act as the link between technical community and local operations - Regular contact with Packaging & Design Networks, Nestle Research and Development and Suppliers to expand & develop technical competence and ways of improving packaging solutions
- Manage technical relationship with relevant suppliers and manage resolution of packaging materials complaints
- Assist factory(ies) and provide them with necessary support to ensure mastership of packaging operations
- Validation of documentation for food contact packaging & co-operate with Quality, Research and Development & Packaging Specialist to implement Packaging Material Monitoring Plan
- Travel to warehouses supplier or external manufactures
Role Requirements
- 6 years’ experience in packaging development in the food and beverage or consumer goods industry
- Degree in Engineering, preferably in Packaging, Mechanics, Industrial, Chemistry or Automation or equivalent
- Strong understanding of packaging sustainability, material selection and validation meeting recyclability requirements
- Proven ability to manage complex projects & diverse stakeholders
- Multi-project management including cross-functional projects.
- Factory operation in filling & packing /packaging industry (converters, equip.).
- Supplier & converter auditing.
- Factory experience (development or filling & packing operations).
Preferred Skills
- Ability to communicate your passion for packaging and to transform business needs into packaging functions.
- Ability to drive change management.
- Proven proactive continuous improvement involvement
- Confidence and ability to escalate issues to the appropriate functional levels, strong ability to challenge
