The Nestlé R&D Center located in the Loire Valley in Tours (France), is part of the Nestlé Institute of Agricultural Sciences within the Nestlé Research Organization whose main center is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. Nestlé Research combines fundamental science at the highest level, high-end analytical platforms leveraged by all research teams, and strong capabilities to accelerate the translation of science into innovation. The Plant Science team builds knowledge on strategic crops with the aim of developing new plant materials in order to deliver quality products through better and sustainable farming.

The main mission of the pre-breeder is to support the varietal creation and innovation in collaboration with the breeding teams and the various support laboratories of the companies, but also by developing external scientific collaborations. The pre-Breeder will propose and lead upstream research projects with the aim of transferring improved and innovative germplasm and technologies to the Nestlé breeders concerned.
Your responsibilities:
• Contribute to the breeding strategy pipeline of the Center in line with business requirements
• Integrate genetics and genomics knowledge for marker assisted selection
• Identify interesting and innovative traits in collaboration with breeders and strategic-lead departments. Genetic trait dissection selecting the most relevant approaches and generating appropriate populations
• Organize systematic phenotyping of germplasms. Develop phenotyping tools and organize systematic phenotyping of germplasm
• Ensures the transfer of partially improved germplasm containing traits of interest and associated markers to breeding team
• Manage all aspects of the activities of a project: analyze the project brief, plan and carry out the activities, ensure reporting and communication
• Participate in tests, analyzes and experiments in field trials and greenhouse
• Comply with Nestlé regulations, norms & standards (quality policy, food safety, security & environment) implemented at the Center
What will make the difference
• Master state of the art for genetics, genomics and phenotyping
• PhD or Msc in Plant Breeding with a good knowledge of agronomy
• Good knowledge of quantitative genetics applied to plant breeding. Demonstrated knowledge in latest genetics and genomics techniques, including fine-mapping, gene cloning, and rapid allele introgression
• Academic or breeding experience related to abiotic stress adaptation, epigenetic or breeding for quality traits would be a plus
• Strong skills in bioinformatics and Knowledge in data statistical analyse
• Good knowledge of agronomy
• Excellent communication skills
• Fluent in English and good knowledge of Spanish
