The Nestlé Plant Science Research Unit located in the Loire Valley in Tours (France), is part of the Nestlé Research Organization whose main center is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. Nestlé Research combines fundamental science at the highest level, high-end analytical platforms leveraged by all research teams, and strong capabilities to accelerate the translation of science into innovation. Nestlé Research published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals over the last five years, and files about 80 patents every year. Nestlé Research collaborates with approximately 100 universities or research institutes around the world. The Plant Science team, builds knowledge on strategic crops with the aim of developing new plant materials in order to deliver quality products through better and sustainable farming.

Confirmed experience in the field of plant genetics, plant selection and biotechnology
MSc. in Plant Breeding or Genetics

Position Summary

As a large-scale buyer of green coffee beans, we have an opportunity to influence how coffee is farmed. Our support and standards are building better lives for farmers and farm workers. The result of this and other work is that 75% of our coffee for our Nescafé brand and 93% of the coffee for our Nespresso permanent range is responsibly sourced.

As a coffee specialist, you work on projects for our different businesses such as Nespresso, Nescafé, Dolce Gusto. Within the Plant Selection’s team, you work in close collaboration with the different R&D teams to develop and implement new technologies focusing on the selection of improved plant material of interest for the Nestlé’s supply chain (coffee and cocoa).
 

A day in the life of...

Drive the technological monitoring of the devices and techniques in plant selection
Use molecular marker, field and experimental data in an integrated approach to support the R&D Centre's projects
Ensure the analysis, reporting and communication of results
Proactively share your expertise & experience to help our Plant Research Centre explore new trends
Report scientific results clearly, to researchers, project managers as well as internal or external clients
Participate in laboratory testing activities                                                       
Participate in the common tasks of the laboratory

What will make you successful

Great communicator, you are able to adapt the message and the communication style to the different audiences: R&D project managers, agronomists, business stakeholders or farmers, …
Real team player, you prefer working in a matrix organization with international partners 
You proactively contribute to the different projects
Fluent in English, speaking in French and/or Spanish would be a plus, external partners and farmers.
With a solid background in molecular biology, plant physiology and genetics, you master data analysis and interpretation
