Position Summary

 

The Nestlé Product Technology Centre Coffee (NPTC Coffee) is the leading R&D organization that discovers, develops and deploys coffee and beverage products and technologies for in-home and out-of-home consumption. 
It consists of units in Konolfingen (CH), Marysville (USA), Orbe (CH) and Singapore and provides new products and processes to all Nestlé markets worldwide. As a R&D Senior Packaging Material Specialist, you will drive complex sustainable packaging projects with high business impact, defining success criteria, timelines, and deliverables. You will be responsible for the proof of concept and development trials. Working in close collaboration with suppliers, you will ensure that projects are delivered in good quality, budget and timing while meeting the business expectations.

A Day in the Life of a R&D Senior Packaging Material Specialist

 

  • Lead and oversee complex packaging projects, from early-stage concept development to industrialization at factory level 
  • Manage and engage stakeholders throughout projects and ensure cross-functional alignment (R&D, marketing, technical, operations, finance, etc.)
  • Drive the project brief and requirements for new packaging materials, considering technical performance, compliance, product protection, shelf-life, storage, transport, etc.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to establish validation protocols
  • Provide innovative and effective solutions to address technical challenges
  • Organize trials in the laboratory, at bench scale, at pilot plant, at factories and at the suppliers
  • Offer expert packaging insights during the industrialization phase to ensure a smooth launch, as well as post-launch support to factories, focusing on product quality, line performance, and cost efficiency
  • Create and maintain fit-for-purpose packaging specifications
  • Lead collaborations with suppliers and continuously expand your network to scout for the latest innovations in the field of packaging materials

 

What will make you successful

 

  • Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Material Engineering/Science, Chemistry, or equivalent
  • 7-10 years of successful experience in relevant packaging projects in R&D and factory settings within the food and beverage industry. Experience at a packaging converter is a valuable asset
  • Extensive knowledge of packaging materials. Knowledge in paper-based flexibles is a plus
  • Proficiency in packaging conversion processes
  • Familiarity with sustainable materials and corresponding end-of-life
  • Proven track record in leading co-developments with packaging material suppliers
  • Ability to coordinate and proactively interact within a project team, openness and flexibility
  • Capability to challenge the status quo and drive projects to completion within given constraints
  • Adept at navigating complex environments and managing uncertainty
  • Autonomous and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to delivering innovative solutions
  • Flexibility for business-related travel 
  • Fluent in English
