The role connects Walmart’s physical and digital ecosystems to create one OMNI view of the shopper and category, translating syndicated, Walmart-specific, custom shopper, and digital-commerce data into objective, shopper-led recommendations that improve category growth and shopability while enabling informed commercial decisions for NWPB. Success requires balancing immediate business needs, mid-term category planning, and long-term strategic partnership—using rigorous analytics, clear narratives, and disciplined measurement to accelerate decision-making and influence execution, annual planning, and multi-year strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a trusted, customer-facing category expert and strategic analytical partner to Walmart merchants, insights partners, and the Nestlé Walmart account team.
- Develop compelling, audience-specific narratives that move from fact to insight to implication to recommendation, with a clear category benefit and decision required.
- Proactively identify opportunities and risks; bring an informed point of view while maintaining objectivity and category-advisor standards.
- Lead knowledge sharing on shopper, competitive, channel, and category dynamics and communicate what those dynamics mean for Walmart.
- Commercial Activation
- Translate category strategy into Walmart-specific actions across assortment, shelving, pricing, promotion, innovation, digital shelf, retail media, and merchandising.
- Develop and deliver compelling & customized strategic narratives grounded in division category strategies to influence retailer actions
- Spearhead merchandising and assortment strategies to grow the category and optimize shopability (e.g., planograms, SKU prioritization, share of shelf) both in-store and online for retailers
- Integrate syndicated, retailer-specific, custom shopper, household panel, space planning, digital shelf, and financial data; reconcile differences and clearly state assumptions and limitations.
- Apply advanced analytics to identify drivers, size opportunities, develop scenarios, and distinguish correlation from actionable category causation.
- Internal Collaboration and Partnership
- Partner with Sales/Customer Account Management to embed category strategy into customer planning, line reviews, Joint Business Planning, and Long-Range Business Planning.
- Connect Category Strategy and Shopper Insights with Walmart-specific realities, ensuring division strategies are both strategically consistent and customer relevant.
- Influence without authority in a fast-moving matrix; establish clear decision rights, owners, timing, and follow-through.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strategic thinking across multiple horizons, with the ability to move fluidly from immediate issue resolution to annual planning and long-range category vision.
- Strong command of OMNI category management, shopper behavior, physical and digital shelf dynamics, and the CPG value chain.
- Advanced analytical problem solving and the ability to synthesize large, sometimes conflicting data sets into clear decisions.
- Executive-ready storytelling, facilitation, and persuasive communication for retailer, sales, and senior-leadership audiences.
- Working knowledge of assortment, space planning, pricing, promotion, innovation, digital commerce, retail media, and measurement methods.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, curiosity, ownership, and comfort operating with ambiguity.
- Ability to manage concurrent priorities, protect confidential information, and deliver reliably against customer milestones.
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional projects and activities, with an ability to build diverse and collaborative relationships.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, analytics, marketing, economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in category management, shopper insights, sales analytics, eCommerce, customer strategy, or a related CPG commercial role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting a large, data-rich retailer and influencing customer decisions through objective category recommendations; Walmart experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with syndicated and retailer-specific data such as Circana or Nielsen and Walmart Scintilla, plus custom shopper and household panel sources.
- Experience with space planning and modular analytics; familiarity with digital shelf analytics, retail media measurement, and OMNI shopper analysis.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint capability; experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization and automation tools preferred.
- Proven success leading customer-facing category reviews, modular or line-review work, cross-functional planning, and post-implementation measurement.
