Position Summary:
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you are responsible for the design and improvement of controls and instrumentation systems, including Capital project development, management, and implementation. You will provide technical support to the facility to meet ongoing Production requirements while developing process automation & controls to enhance performance, reliability, and quality within the site. You will oversee PLC upgrades and wiring modifications on production equipment and work directly with our maintenance team to troubleshoot and support production line modifications.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review specifications to plan layout and installation of electrical wiring and instrumentations including P&ID. Test all assemblies, installations, or repairs on electrical or electronic wiring, and instruments. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, or components, using test equipment and tools, to locate the cause of a problem.
• Designs PLC, HMI, instrumentation and electrical systems and applications for cost effective plant operations. Advise the Engineering staff of appropriate control and instrumentation standards and philosophy including robotic material handling systems. Manage controls related Capital project activities, from conception through start-up, including conceptual design, budgeting, detailed design, specification development, bid negotiations, and installation.
• Assist the site in the maintenance, upgrade, and troubleshooting of existing PLC and HMI control systems. Update the hardware/software of existing systems to ensure efficient plant operation.
• Uses Root Cause Analysis to investigate operational errors and recommends corrective action.
• Provide support for plant operations requiring control system troubleshooting, PLC programming, and design. Responsible for troubleshooting Control Cabinet including PLC, relays, I/O modules, VFDs, Robotic material handling system and instrumentations.
• Review standards and compliance requirements applicable to the electrical control systems. Provides instrumentation, PLC and HMI/SCADA software & hardware support and training to plant maintenance staff.
• Lead transformational projects and process improvement initiatives.
Experience and Education Requirements:
• 5+ years’ experience in industrial control system installation, maintenance, and support in a manufacturing environment.
• Applicable experience in PLC software and hardware troubleshooting and/or PC-based HMI systems or Associates of Applied Science in an electrical, industrial, or other technical discipline.
• Experience Reading Rockwell Software
• Applicable experience in PLC software and hardware troubleshooting and/or PC based HMI-systems. SCADA programming or Ignition experience preferred.
• Must be able to read blueprints, shop drawings, and generate rough sketches as needed. Ability to use
electrical tools such as an oscilloscope and/or electrical test meter
Skills:
Direct skills/experience with the following Allen-Bradley/Rockwell components and software:
• CompactLogix PLC, MicroLogix 1400 PLC, PanelView Plus HM, PowerFlex Series Inverters, Kinetic Series Servos and RSLogix 5000 Software
