The Safety Health & Environmental specialist provides broad support to the site in Safety, Health and Environmental. The primary objective of the role is providing regular support to site operations at points of execution on the shop floor, contributes to a site culture where Safety, Health and Environment are engrained as a core value with all employees. This position will be responsible to assist Safety Health & Environmental programs implementation and daily follow-up and trains other employees in key Safety Health & Environmental areas as necessary. The Safety Health & Environmental Specialist will be responsible for compliance and expected work practices on the shop floor. The Safety Health & Environmental Specialist  should serve as experts in plant safety, and can be counted on to answer questions, follow up on safety concerns, demonstrate positive safety behaviors, and show a fundamental commitment to creating and maintaining a safe working environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Implement and participate in company Safety Health & Environmental policies, processes and procedures including but not limited to:

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of expected Safety Health & Environmental practices and behaviors.
  • SHE team meeting
  • Job Hazard evaluations, Internal Inspections and audits, incidents investigations
  • Hazard Abatement
  • Confined Space Entry, electrical safety, Hot Work, etc.…
  • Machine Safeguarding, Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO)
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Emergency procedures and equipment
  • Take an active role in site waste management audits and practices
  • ISO Requirements
  • Chemical inventory and management
  • Troubleshoot at risk conditions using NCE problem solving tools such as 5 Why, GSTD Tools.
  • Make monthly presentations to team in team meetings. Review information received in safety meeting and discussed safety improvement as needed in work areas.
  • Take an active role in ensure that human safety is never compromised.
  • Performs required safety programs expectation for FHF, Risk Predictions, etc..
  • Provide key support to all Safety Health & Environmental systems as directed
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental best practices.
  • Support site ISO 14001 and 45001 certification, document control process, and record maintenance
  • Troubleshoot various environmental Management System policies and behaviors are observed. Works with Supervisor, Lead, and employees to help modify safety behaviors
  • Provide key support with all Environmental Management system policies and procedures including but not all inclusive:
  • SPCC spill prevention control countermeasures
  • Spill response and clean up support
  • Waste management
  • Provide Safety Health & Environmental expertise at operations reviews
  • Communicates and counsels with team members when unsafe practices and behaviors are observed. Works with Supervisors, Leads and employees to help modify safety behaviors.
  • Assist in root cause investigations of Safety Health & Environmental related incidents
  • Provide routine training and coaching to site personnel.
  • Serves as a safety resource to all associates in the factory. Answers questions and ensures suggested improvements are evaluated and implements when appropriate.
  • Demonstrated safety commitment by working safely. Uses proper lifting techniques. Works in a way that promotes good ergonomic health. Actively demonstrates and promotes positive safety behaviors.
  • Complete all required documentation to support OSHA and EPA compliance and injury prevention activities.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Manager.

Requirements and Minimum Education Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Safety Management or other related field
  • Associates Degree (required) in Safety Management or other related field

Experience:

  • 2+ years’ experience in manufacturing or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General knowledge of plate operations including Maintenance, Warehouse, refrigeration and production.
  • Must have solid track record for Safety Health & Environmental, having served as Safety Health & Environmental representative or committee member is considered helpful.
  • First Aid/CPAR/AED or higher certification will be required.

Skills:

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal interactions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required along with the ability able to communicate with audiences that have a broad range of background and understanding.
  • Training and presentation skills.
  • Able to live the Nestle Leadership Principles and bring it to life for others
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft office/ Windows based)
  • Reding and comprehension skills/legal and regulatory interpretation
