Position Summary:

The Team Leader 1 is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Production Supervisor employees.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors daily activities of Topping Production employees.
  • Assists in the training of Topping Production employees.
  • Ensures that all necessary equipment needed for the next production run is ready, clean, and in working order prior to the start of that product.
  • Notifies supervisor or maintenance department when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of his or her expertise.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in the working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department, line or team.
  • Observes production operations and inspects product to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Observes production to ascertain the type and quantity of ingredients and/or any auxiliary equipment necessary to produce product according to product and process specifications, and ensures that whatever is necessary is ready and in working order prior to the run.
  • Starts, adjusts, and operates production machinery using approved methods.
  • Notifies the Supervisor or Maintenance department when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of his or her expertise.
  • Observes production operations and inspects product to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Operates auxiliary equipment associated with the operations of the production line.
  • Coordinates with the Packaging Lead to solve quality issues with the product in a timely fashion.
  • Assists Supervisor in analyzing production problems and assists team members in solving them.
  • Maintains and monitors process control paperwork in accordance with HACCP recommendations, including but not limited to: SPC weight control.
  • Understands and performs all necessary work related to our internal computer system.
  • Ensures proper communication on pre-ops and changeovers between shifts.
  • Confers with other Leads to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Performs all Topping Production functions within each department.
  • Completes related paperwork throughout the shift and submits to operations department at the end of each shift.
  • Ensures proper communication on pre-ops and changeovers between shifts.
  • Maintains and monitors cleanliness of employees’ working area.
  • Plans daily and weekly crewing levels.
  • Monitors employee’s adherence to company rules and policies and recommends necessary corrective action to the Supervisor if needed.
  • Assists in reviewing and maintaining crewing levels and optimizing to meet or surpass NPF cost targets.
  • Suggests ways to control labor and supply costs as well as improve processes.
  • Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are followed.
  • Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place.
  • Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

 

Education, Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • One to three months of food manufacturing or packaging experience.
  • Ability to work overtime, irregular hours or rotating shifts.
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English.
  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of diverse individuals within the plant.
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility with employees.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, formulas, and policy and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to write standard information into related paperwork.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure including but not limited to pounds, ounces, grams, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percentages and interpret line graphs.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted, and frequently lift and/or move 51 - 100 pounds with lifting equipment or with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a plant production environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  While performing the duties of this job in the plant, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles.  Employee may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures that range from below zero (0) degrees Fahrenheit to over ninety (90) degrees Fahrenheit.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. While in the plant, the employee is required to utilize the required personal protective equipment.

 

The approximate pay for this position is $26.41/hr. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
