Position Summary

 

This position is based in Scottsdale, AZ

 

Purina’s sales category team ensures we proudly stand as a leader in the pet care industry, while being seamlessly integrated into the world's largest food and beverage company. We give you the high charge of helping develop and present customer omni-business plans, providing financial analysis, leveraging analytical data/insights, and developing category plans to achieve overall category growth around sales, market share, and profit objectives. Your collective experiences at Purina will far surpass your achievements in growing category sales as we work to innovate the pet care industry.

 

The Petco Category Manager is a strategic business leader responsible for driving category growth, strengthening retailer partnerships, and uncovering opportunities that create value to drive category growth. This role requires a highly driven self-starter who combines analytical expertise, business acumen, and exceptional storytelling skills to influence decisions at all levels, including senior retailer and executive leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category growth strategies that drive sales, share, and profitability.
  • Identify emerging trends, shopper insights, and marketplace opportunities to unlock growth.
  • Translate complex data into compelling recommendations and executive-level business stories.
  • Lead category reviews, strategic planning discussions, and retailer presentations.
  • Build trusted relationships with Petco stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
  • Influence assortment, pricing, promotion, merchandising, and space decisions through fact-based recommendations.
  • Collaborate across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Modular Planning, and Analytics to deliver business results.
  • Demonstrate ownership, initiative, and accountability while leading through influence.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in category development, account management or business analytics OR High School diploma with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in category development, account management or business analytics

 

Other

  • Regular travel to Petco headquarters and retailer meetings (~50%).
  • Travel to Purina headquarters in St. Louis approximately every other month

Salary: $120,480.30 to $159,346.00 per year

The pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at top of range.
