2023 Nestlé USA Legal 1L Scholars Internship – Seattle Campus

What to Expect
Our 1L Legal Internship Program – Seattle Campus is a paid, full time, 12 week summer program offered in partnership with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and the law firm of Perkins Coie. This comprehensive program provides law students completing their first year of studies with the opportunity to intern with the in-house legal team for our Nestlé Coffee Partners group at its Seattle, Washington office. Participants will receive hands-on experience working with the Nestlé Legal team in areas such as intellectual property, commercial contracts, advertising, food law and general legal matters. In–house lawyers will provide mentoring to participants with developmental feedback to help the interns gain a better understanding of the unique role of an in-house law department at the world’s largest food company. Additionally, through our partnership with the Perkins Coie law firm, participants will have the opportunity to spend six weeks at Perkins Coie’s Seattle, WA office handling work for Perkins Coie clients and participating in the firm’s summer program trainings and events. During the time with Perkins Coie, participants will have the opportunity to work directly with associates and partners to gain practical experience and insights from working at one of America’s premier law firms.

Examples of Past Projects
As a legal intern at Nestlé USA, you will be exposed to the company’s senior legal leadership and develop your professional network. Past interns have handled a variety of assignments including:
• Reviewing and drafting commercial contracts
• Assisting with the development of policies, training materials, checklists and guidelines in a variety of  practice areas including employment and environmental law
• Preparing cease and desist letters for commercial and intellectual property disputes
• Investigating and managing potential trademark infringement matters
• Researching current trends in food law
• Working on digital and social media matters

Requirements

• This internship is limited to individuals completing their first year of law school and who are in a group historically underrepresented in the legal profession, including students of color, students who identify as LGBTQ+, and students with disabilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• 3.0 or above cumulative GPA
 

Additional Requirements

• Willing to work for 12 consecutive weeks in the summer of 2022

• Willing to work in Seattle, WA for the duration of the internship

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills

• Self-starter who is results-oriented and exhibits responsibility, creativity, and intellectual curiosity

• Involvement in extracurricular activities demonstrating initiative and leadership

The approximate hourly Nestlé pay for this position is $30.00-$40.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location. The Perkins Coie Pay Range is $98 - $105 / hour.
