POSITION SUMMARY

As a Business Development Manager, you will play a critical role in defining and executing business growth strategies for Nespresso in China. You will work closely with the Nespresso China management team to formulate Nespresso’s mid to long term strategic plan and deliver on strategic initiatives. You will also be responsible for identifying and developing new business growth and retail innovation opportunities (from strategy to ideation to pilot and launch). The role works with market, zone and HQ stakeholders and external partners to realize these opportunities. You will have accountability over specific workstreams and lead cross-functional teams on projects to ensure strategic, financial, and operational objectives are achieved.

 

This role reports to the Business Executive Officer for Nespresso Greater China.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Coordinate the development of Nespresso’s 3-5 year market business strategy in China and executional roadmap and corresponding annual operational master plans.

  • Accelerate strategic initiatives by supporting functional units and driving execution by mapping priorities, milestones and deliverables and leading cross-functional teams

Business Development

Identify, evaluate and execute business development opportunities (e.g., new products, new services, new channels), working with internal and external stakeholdersRetail Innovation

  • Identify and design "future retail" elements based on in-depth consumer understanding and industry trends (e.g., personalization, augmented reality, O2O, sustainability)
  • Build business cases, drive strategic alignment across the organization and manage pilots
  • Establish and manage a multi-year innovation pipeline to delight target consumers and fulfill business objectives

 

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree.
  • At least 7 years work experience, ideally with at least 5 years work experience in strategy consulting or in an in-house corporate strategy role.
  • Experience in strategy development and change management, including project formulation, hypotheses development, financial modeling, stakeholder consensus building and implementation.
  • Exposure to cross-functional and multi-cultural work environments
  • Track record of delivering on business strategic projects as a project manager
  • Prior experience in retail or consumer packaged goods is preferred; passion for coffee and sustainability is required

 

SKILLS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Fluent written and verbal Chinese and English.
  • Strong strategic, conceptual and analytical skills.
  • An effective communicator who writes concisely and can influence without authority.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to lead cross-functional project teams and achieve results in a matrixed, multi-cultural environment.
  • Able to analyze financials, consumer research, and syndicated data and trends in order to uncover insights and opportunities to inform decision making.
  • Able to work independently yet be highly collaborative and focused on delivering on business outcomes.
  • Results oriented, taking and owning initiatives with a sense of urgency; willing to be hands on in driving changes to achieve committed results.
