What to Expect 

 

The Nestlé USA & Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP 1L Scholars Legal Internship Program is a paid, full-time, 10 week summer internship offered in partnership with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.  This comprehensive program provides law students who are entering their first summer work experience (typically, following completion of the 1L year, but may be later if studying on a part-time basis) with the unique opportunity to intern for half of the program at Vorys’ Cleveland, Ohio office and half of the program with the in-house legal team at Nestlé USA in Solon, Ohio. 

 

The 2023 1L Legal Scholar will work at the Vorys Cleveland office doing work for Nestlé and other Vorys clients.  In addition, the 1L Legal Scholar will be offered the opportunity to participate in Vorys’ Summer Associate Program throughout the entire internship period, where they will receive mentoring, professional-development programs, hands-on training, and access to fun networking events.  During the time at Vorys, participants will have the opportunity to work directly with associates, partners, paralegals, and professional staff on a wide variety of matters, and will gain experience and insights from working at a nationally recognized, full-service law firm. 

 

While with Nestlé USA at the company’s beautiful campus in Solon, Ohio, the 1L Legal Scholar will receive hands-on experience working with the Nestlé Legal team in areas such as intellectual property, litigation, commercial contracts, employment, advertising, food law, privacy, and general legal matters.  In-house lawyers will provide mentoring to participants with developmental feedback to gain a better understanding of the unique role of an in-house law department at the world’s largest food company.   

 

Examples of Past Projects  

 

As a legal intern at Nestlé USA, you will gain exposure to senior legal leadership and develop your professional network. 

  • Reviewing and drafting commercial contracts 

  • Assisting with the development of policies, training materials, checklists and guidelines in a variety of practice areas including employment and environmental law 

  • Preparing cease and desist letters for commercial and intellectual property disputes 

  • Research current trends in food law 

  • Digital and Social Media Matters 

  

Requirements 

 

• This internship is limited to individuals completing their first year of law school. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

• 3.0 or above cumulative GPA 
 

Additional Requirements 

 

• Willing to work for 10 consecutive weeks in summer of 2023 

• Willing to work in the Ohio cities of Cleveland and Solon for the duration of the internship 

 

Knowledge & Skills 

 

• Strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills 

• Self-starter who is results-oriented and exhibits responsibility, creativity, and intellectual curiosity 

• Involvement in extracurricular activities, demonstrating initiative and leadership
